Hecatomb
« on: August 03, 2005, 03:09:25 AM »
Have you guys heard anything about Hecatomb? They just gave everyone in the company starters. It hasn't been released yet (not sure when it will be), so I wasn't sure if you've gotten it for review.

Anyway, it looks great. The cards have such a fun look and feel. I haven't read through to see how it's played yet. I'm having a few people over for my birthday this weekend; maybe I'll try to play it with them.

Probably, for the longest time you were the only TWGer that didn't play games like these.

All I can say is if you get one of those to scale AT-ATs for Star Wars Minis then I'm going to be jealous.

My coworker was just talking about AT-ATs this afternoon, and my other coworker didn't know what they were. :) I haven't really looked at the SW minis, but I can grab a couple boxes and send them your way if you like (I could send them home with Brandon next month). I have quite a few product points that I get every quarter and I doubt I'll use them all.

Did someone tell you I played D&D minis the other day, though? (It was for the Angelfire employee prerelease. I figured I ought to go down and try it out.) And I won. Against the guy who works on minis, no less. He nearly had me, but then it flipped round to me because I got his biggest guy.

Hah that's cool Stacer, way to kick butt, I pretend I do that to Fell all the time.  First time I played D&DM (for the review on the site) that's how Prometheus beat me, I had one big figure and some smaller ones and once he routed my tough figure the game was over.

Of course I'd love some SWM but I don't want to make you feel obligated in anyway.  If you want to then that's great but if you can't for what ever reason then it's no big deal.

But back to my question--seriously, anyone seen it? The cards are (in my extremely limited experience) really cool-looking. They're pentagon-shaped (maybe hexagon, that would make more sense), clear plastic at the edges, and highly colorful in the center picture. Rather horror-esque. The outer box is kind of monotone, but the cards themselves just punch out at you in color.

I have no idea about how it plays, or if the 40-card starter is enough for a game. I should figure that out before trying to play it with other people, I guess.

Typically you need 2 starter sets (or equivalent amount of cards) to play games like these.  I've seen a bit on this game but since I'm not a huge fan of CCGs I haven't really followed it.  I'm sure Fell knows more.

I'm not sure why they're useing Hexagon cards instead of standard rectangles, is it just a marketing thing?

I've been following it, and I keep expecting a press release from Toby or Tomasetti, but so far all I've seen is the previews on the web. I like the feel of it and I like the "stacking monsters to build bigger monsters" mechanic, but the rest of gameplay really sounds like yet another rehash of Magic. I've been very disappointed with Wizards' recent CCG designs.

I got a demo starter of Hecatomb as well.. I think this game will rock.  I rather disagree with Fell, I'm thinking this game has the mechanics to have a much different feel than magic.  Also the fact that is extremely multiplayer friendly should help it out alot as well.  I hope I dont sound too much like a fanboy of the game.. but I think I may be becoming one.. /sigh

Well, don't take my opinions too forcefully at this point, since I have yet to see more than the cheesy little hints and such on the website.

I still have yet to play it. We played RoboRally instead the other night. I might mention to my coworker that I'm interested in playing.

Roborally is awesome. I've heard it's being rereleased, and I intend to buy it the day it comes out.
