Savage
« on: March 25, 2003, 01:30:50 PM »
Neat! I got into the beta test for this game. IGN or Gamespot has full details but here's a quick overview: Savage is a multiplayer game in which the commander is playing an RTS, and all of his combat units are the other players, who are playing an FPS. Such a cool idea--when I get it all downloaded and installed, I'll tell you what I think (which will be limited to "neat" or "lame," since there's a strict confidentiality policy).

Humm I've heard about that one that's the RTS that you can zoom in and take control of a single unit so it becomes like a FPS right?

No, this one's different: one person is playing an RTS the entire time, and the units he commands are players with an FPS viewpoint.

Wo wo wo, so let me get this straight.  one person controls the RTS elemant and all others are FPS?  So the RTS guys bulds units and buildings are the FPS characters like hero units?

I don't know how much I'm allowed to discuss, so I'll just send you here: http://pc.ign.com/articles/380/380291p1.html

Sorry about the pop-up ads and crap; IGN is lame, what can I say?

Anyway, they give a pretty good description of what the game is like. I had the chance to play through one game this evening, and I can tell you this is in incredibly early build of the game. Looks like it's going to be fun, though.

I also signed up for the beta, since I'm a big fan of RTS games. I think the idea of commanding other players, who are all FPS while I have a RTS view of the battlefield, is a fascinating idea. Hopefully I'll get in.

Wait...I don't get it. Is the Savage beta selection process done or not?

If the thing is still up, they're still selecting beta applicants. This is only stage two of a five stage beta, so they will eventually need more.
