Beta tests
« on: September 09, 2003, 04:44:13 PM »
Well I'd thought I'd try to inform people of any beta tests I run upon.

This one is for a historical RTS that takes place in greece.  Applications are being taken until sept 26:

Has anyone here tried the Dark Horizon's Lore game that just opened their beta? Is it worth trying out?

Yes, since I had a snow day today I spent the five hours on dial up to dl the demo.

My review:  Don't bother.

On a scale of 1 to fun, this ranks a 1.  And this is coming from a guy who loves mech games.

Waste of time.

Ah...ok...I guess I'm glad I asked. Still, Fell posted it for a reason. Wonder if he likes it, or if that company just sent him an email or something.

The company sent me the press release, and I thought I'd support it because it's an indy developer. too bad it sucks, I guess.

Ah well, they can't all be good. In case anyone missed it when I posted in the World of Warcraft thread, their beta signups start tonight.

Another quote from the Blizzard message boards that may concern those interested in signing up.

Given the high sensitivity of the World of Warcraft beta test, hotmail and yahoo email addresses will not be accepted. Your email address will be the primary means of contact concerning the beta test. Please make sure to double check that the email address you provide is valid and will be for the foreseeable future.

---> make sure you pick a PERM account (like ISP or something?) that won't expire. I've had my college email address since 1995! I got permission to give you this info early so you can get another email if that's your only one :)

I keep thinking of signing up for this beta even though I'm positive my computer won't be able to handle it and hte internet will just tick me off even though the computer WILL run it.
Why?
Mostly because if I got in it would annoy all of you.

But I probably won't.

Yep, I tried last night, you know, when the traffic was the highest. So I gave up on that and instead tried this morning. And so on and so forth I'm in the bidding.

If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

in connection with needing more content for the VG dept, it might be a good idea for many of us to try to get into these betas. I usually don't bother, personally. But I'll start trying.
