Scots Guard?

Okay, this one is just begging to get out.  What were they?  An elite military force dedicated to the protecting and cleaning of her majesty's carpets?

Got it. Laughed.

And am wondering: is the Black Watch the Highland Regiment? The one whose museum is in Stirling Castle? Or are they two separate military bodies?

And why are they disbanding them?

I don't get EUOLs joke. Evidently only lit geeks get it  ::)

And the Highlanders are a seperate regiment. They are a mechanised infantry regiment. As far as i know, thats the 3 scottish regiments. They say they are disbanding the other two since they have been unable to get up to full strength, meaning that whenever they deploy they have had to been supported by another unit.

Happy birthday, SE. It's a milestone.

I thought you were older than me by more than a few months. (...Then again, maybe that's just faulty memory speaking. I remember having a conversation about age one time at TLE or writing group or something and being surprised.) Yes, my 20s are drawing to a close--but not till next year!!!!! And the next 8 months better go slower than the last 4.

You mean, I *am* the oldest on the board? ugh.

At least I've got 3 kids to show for it. That'd be kind of weird if I were the youngest.

Hey! Thanks! Best (only) present I've gotten so far today!

Thoughts on being 30:
I'm closer in age to a 40 yo than to College Freshmen. This makes me feel old.
I am now qualified as a character for "30 Something" (you know, that show you didn't ever watch because you were too young). This also makes me feel old.
I'm now entering my fourth decade of life. This makes me feel old.
I really need a long game day with a lot of friends to get over this.
