Yes. The british government was displeased at the Norths blockade of the souths ports, which apparently had dubious legality. It wanted those goods! So, after poking holes in the blockade with lawers, the british government apparently decided to ignore the whole colonial war business and just get back to trading.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

My statement was not to say that Lincoln was the greatest American, though I think you under-rate his political and moral fiber to discount him from among the best (sorry, I like Rock and all, and I love Elvis and all, but he's NOT a greater human being than Abe). And to say that Homer Simpson is the greatest American with those others as options certainly shows a lack of maturity

Not that I was even trying to get him off the list... I just meant real people are better examples of Americans than fake ones. With the exception of Peter Parker that is.

There was actually a signficant amount of unofficial support for the South by Britain, especially (but not exclusively) by private organizations. The north and south both agreed on the issue of slave trading, but I think that there were still some hard feelings between the Union states and Britain over that whole revolution thing.
