i had an idear to get some more traffic to the forum, and I'm looking for feedback.

What if I made a thread on the Message board after posting an article, just for discussion on that article, then linked to it from the blurb and/or added a line to the article that said "discuss this article here" or something.

The main problem is that we don't discuss every article that runs. Maybe that would change if I made a thread for it and said something about it. Maybe not though.  However, I see this as a good way to advertise the forum, and it would orient the noobs, since they'd have content to be talking about instead of random crap. Thoughts?

A more limited option would be to go back and edit blurbs/articles once a thread DOES appear about the article.

We used to do that with Tabletop articles.  We stopped when I stopped writing tabletop articles (over a year ago).  It worked fairly well--the topics were not huge, but there was usually a page or two about each article.

I like the idea, especially because it gives specific discussion possibilities.

I like it, but if the topics aren't actually discussed, they might fill up the forum. This currently is a problem at only one or two articles a day, but empty threads can be annyoing.

Also, if the purpose is to get new people in the forum, keep in mind that what is likely to end up is that we discuss each others writing skills and how well the article is written, just as much as we discuss the topic. This could alienate people following the thread.

Overall, I think it is a good idea.

at arstechnica they just have a separate forum for the news post discussions.

You know, I think this works pretty well.  Not only does it make us forum-dwellers more likely to read the articles on the main page, but I think it's more likely to draw people to the forum.  Both are desirable, I think.

I like the article/forum tie-ins, but why aren't the subjects being put into their proper forum departments? For example, shouldn't Axis & Allies be in Tabletop?

well, we kinda need to settle that. I understood that board games went in "other" which corresponded to "not tabletop" on the forum. Am I wrong?

I've been inconsistant myself. Some board games I've put in table top and some in other. But A&A was categorized as "other" when it was originally run, so that's where I put it.

Are there any others that I've misplaced?

I've always assumed board games were in the Tabletop category.  Either way, the Other section needs to be fixed -- it's spelled "bordgames".

what do you want it to be. "Boredgames?" like that's exciting.

Unless you mean "board games," Which would imply some sort of board-like, stiff surface to play on. How weird would that be?

I just like the fact that "bordgames" is right next to "Gameing  Chef", something I've pointed out before. Multiple times.
