Brandon Sanderson / Re: Atium Mistings?
« on: March 07, 2008, 05:44:43 AM »
Also I think it's entirely possible, and I wouldn't feel it was stretching it, to say that there were atium mistings but no one knew about them because of the impracticality.

They only thought there were the 10 basic metals at first, and then they begin to learn how wrong they were about that, so why can't that be true for misting power's as well.

Books / Twilight discussion... I know, I'm late to the bandwagon...
« on: March 07, 2008, 05:39:41 AM »
Alright, so I just finished the third one, Eclipse and I have a few things to say.

BTW--- ***SPOILERS***

1) I almost liked the first one by itself,
why? because I'm not really into love triangles, someone's always getting hurt and that just kills me.

2) Is it only me or was anyone else totally peeved at Edward in Book 2? He was a complete jerk! I really was disappointed with him and when she ran off after him, I was even more annoyed. He went down a rung, for me, after that.

3) I almost think I like Jake more! Maybe I can identify with loving a man like that, someone down to earth and safe...

4) Everyone kept telling me how mad they were about the kiss between Bella and Jake, but I liked it... it made me happy.

5) And I'm not so sure how I feel about her becoming a vampire. If she does, though, I sure would like to read about the process a little, I don't like stories where you're waiting for something to happen that only does at the very very end... it reminds me of tv shows like Gilligan's Island, or Earth 2 where you're waiting for something to happen the entire series that never fully develops.

Anyway, I'm hoping that Jake gets something good out of all of this, cause I'm really feeling for him right now.

I just read 'The Assassins of Tamurin' by SD Tower (which I know was on here as a bad book). I'm gonna have to say that if it weren't for the insane amount of details... I'm talking over the top, I don't care what the stupid flower looked like kinda details... it might have been good.

But then again, they made the one lady (antagonist) so manipulative and the MC so blithely unaware that I wanted to scream in frustration. I don't think I've ever run into a character I was so happy to see 'get it' than in that book.

I don't think I'd recommend it to anyone.

I finished it... finally. and once again I found myself saying to my husband "I just don't know how he's gonna tie this all up in 100 pages" and then I'm left reading 100 pages in one sitting, refusing to eat until I'm done.

I saw a ton of questions while scanning through the last 5 pages or so, but I'm gonna ask a different one.... Is there a page on this thread where EUOL answers some?

hehe, that way I wouldn't have to read all 44 pages to find my answers. :)

ugh, now he's saying my idea's are to 'jane austen' and that he doesn't want his characters swooning all over each other....

I'm gonna just repeat what I said so you can see how far off he's taking this:
I hardly thought of Twilight, in fact Twilight is nothing like what I just suggested... that's more of a high school scenerio. I was thinking more like the French Resisitance or the underground railroad. Something where they are oppressed so they hide and fight back in secret.

And he says:
I see Twilight as Jane Austen with Vampires, if the greatest conflict in our male character's life is overcoming his prejudice for the Dryads and embracing his love for this girl, then it is Jane Austen with Dryads.  As much as many women want to believe that it is them and their love that changes a man I believe that it is really responsibility that changes a man

My brother is a jerk.

I like Glimpse too...

And by dark and bad I meant ring-wraith dark and bad... I hardly see any Misting like that, I see them more as the ultimate in assassin's.

There's always something like.... sight... oooh, or how 'bout a ken....

meaning:
a range of sight or vision

As in beyond one's ken

just an idea

I seem to be a common ranter on this thread... maybe I should think about that a little. BUT until then I have one:

My brother wants to 'write' this story with me and my sister, so we're going along with him and having fun. We're doing it in google docs and they come up with all these Idea's and I poked in yesterday and said, "I think we should do it this way"

So he posts back and says that it sounded like I was trying to make the story like Twilight and that he didn't want to write a book for a bunch of girls even if it sold millions of copies.

Okay... if that weren't annoying enough to me (my brother has a tendency to shoot down my idea's cause I'm the younger of us) it totally wasn't remotely near anything in Twilight! And he wouldn't have known anyway cause he's never read the book! My brother drives me nuts sometimes... I should just learn to not talk about writing with him.

whew, thanks.

ah, well that's where, TWOT and Paolini's books... I get confused after a while, there seems to be dark, dangerous, cloak covered creatures that instill terror in everything they come across, in every book and I get confused on which ones are which.
Ring Wraith's
Mydraal
Dementor's

it gets confusing.

I don't like an atium misting being called a shade for that reason, it's to dark and.... bad... maybe seer is better.

If I couldn't burn atium or being a full blown mistborn I think I'd have to go with thug, although tineye sounds cool  too, but a thug has a better chance of defending themselves since they don't rely so heavily on metals as say coinshots do. And defense in that world seems pretty important to me, so I'd go with thug.

But I'd really just like to be a mistborn.

But this takes all the skill out of it. You have to be really good at your one thing if your just a misting. Being a mistborn is kinda like always giong to your mom's house to wash your clothes. (bad analogy)

Yeah,  I'm totally missing that. right over my head there. ;)

I have this disc full of pictures I want to look at on my laptop, but it freaks out everytime I try to open the thing... it's annoying. And the baby got a hold of the camera cord (you know so I can put my pics on my computer) I can't find it anywhere now.
