Books / Re: So, apparently Dumbledore is gay.

I don't like Jordan because he's boring, and he makes allusions that have nothing behind them.

that's what I meant, actually. And I even reworded my post cause I thought you might say that about comics. I grew up with X-men and Batman and Superman (my brother's more than me). I'm a particular softy for X-Men myself... I think I got a lot more of that than the others. But I don't mind comics at all.

I do have to say SE that there were about 3 titles you just spouted that I've never heard of. My husband is on a 'read the classics' kick and I must say I agree with him. If you read the classics you get a new feel for all sorts of things, like movies, since they .....blah what's the word I'm looking for.... hint (not the word...) towards lots of classics in movies. Plus you just sound really smart when you can talk like that...  ;)

Spriggan!

No Harry Potter? No Wheel of Time? No Tolkien? Now I'm curious what you read? course that's not to say that if you haven't read those books you aren't well read, (I had a friend tell me that HP7 was possibly the best book she'd ever read, and I thought, "hmm, I definitely don't agree with that") in fact I wouldn't really judge someone as 'well read' by those at all.
Fantasy is a new thing for me, really, maybe 3 or 4 years of reading. Before that I was really into Historical Fiction, before that Murder Mysteries. Now I'm broadening again and perhaps soon will have gone on to a new genre....

I agree about The Hobbit, I read it after the LOTR and found it boring. But I love LOTR.

I told my Brother in Law to read it. He then got his wife to, now I think we've talked another brother in law into reading it. Such hesitancy! if they only knew what a high they'd be getting....  ;)

Does anyone want to stick a picture of the cover on here so I can see it? You've got me curious now.

I don't much care for some of the Wheel of Time covers. And I will say that I bought the book 'Gideon, the cutpurse.' which was a mildly good book (course it's also considered young adult) but the cover is awesome! IMO so  I keep it in my bookshelf instead of somewhere hidden.

One of the reasons I didn't pick up a fantasy book, or SF (which I'm still working myself up to) is cause the covers are so odd. I saw Elantris in my catalog  ;) and was slightly interested but didn't buy it. I kept coming back to it though cause the cover looked so good, and it sounded good, but I wasn't into reading new authors at that point cause I'd gotten burned a couple of times. So I debated, and finally my sister talked me into it. I'm really glad that cover was so nice.

So can I change my vote? I think if it had been me wondering whether to buy Elantris and I saw it for $4.99, I probably would have gone for it.

My husband is on Battalion Staff... they played dodge ball for their Physical Training... he's past getting beaten around.

But your right a night out sounds like a good idea. And when you put it that way, golly, 42 pour salt on my wounds why don'tcha...  ;)

ooh, I agree... When I'm online buying books from... well, as I already said, the only place I EVER get to buy books anymore, SFBC I go for the deals... course they're all deals there.

I like the idea of a collector's edition or something of the like, this isn't exactly the same but we waited until the LOTR extended editions came out in a set before we bought them.

I also would add, and maybe this is just me, but I'm OCD about having a series in the same cover. Like I have one of the Bartimeaus trilogy in hardback and one in soft and it drives me nuts! *blushing* I don't usually buy a book in SB if I have another in HB... BUT I have also been known to buy a book cheap in SB and if I liked it go back and buy it again in HB (another reason why my husband tries to keep me as far away from bookstores as possible  ;))

Maybe I'm just agreeing with everyone, maybe there is no real rhyme or reason to why I buy books... I'm just an addict.

This is the oddest thread I have ever run across! is this like a vent our frustration thread, cause I have a good one then.
My husband goes away for drill (national guard) this weekend. he leaves on friday so he can catch a session in the Billings T. doesn't come home till sunday night.

While he's gone the world dissolves into tears, screams, sleepless nights, dirty dishes, yelling. My daughter actually began screaming at me when I told her to pick up her toys! (very unusual)

When the love of my life returns, I mention that I think I should get a day off after his drill weekends. He gets huffy and says I'm trying to make my job harder than his ::) (yes, exactly what I said, really, did you catch that in the 'I think I need a break')

So now, today, Tuesday. I wake at 6AM (kids) to find that my two oldest have slept together on the couch. they cry all morning long and by the time I've got the one at school, another watching a movie and another down for a nap I'm ready to email hubby and give him a good once over about needing that break....

so what does he do! he emails me first! and has the nerve to say... I love you I hope you have a good day! AAAAAH. how am I suppose to yell at him now!

there, now i've vented that you can go on talking about routers.  ;)

Thanks, Shi!

She is doing better, and convinced going to school is better than staying at home, in bed, all day!  ;)

Usually I only wonder about it's quality when the entire stock is sitting on the discount shelf.

Yes, I kind of had that image in my head... stacks of Mistborn all at $4.99. hmm...

It might be noted that I haven't even seen the PB's, as I have had little opportunity to enter a bookstore lately -sigh-. No most of my books come from Library book sales and SFBC, of late. The closest major book retailer is 30 minutes from me.
(I think my husband had that in mind when he moved us here  ;) )

I have been resisting... barely. The other day when I was showering I started thinking about it and pretty soon I was all stressed out and wanting to jump out and go run to my computer and edit. MUST.... NOT.... EDIT.

I actually dreamed about it last night too, the editing *blush*

but I haven't yet, I've been the model of self control.

Oh, incidentally I am at 14029 as of an hour or so ago, but I did see someone on there that was at 16K  :o  I should go-- wouldn't want them ahead of me. ;)

Are we discussing?

If I was trying to sell a book I don't think I'd like selling it for $4.99 copy PLUS a coupon for money off my other book. (seems like I'd get less money to me, but that's just me) The question is which option is more likely to get sales?

If I were a buyer I would be thinking two things, 1) hmm, a book for $4.99 that's not a bad price and if I like it I can buy this other one for cheaper too, but 2) I wonder why it's so cheap, is it such a bad book that they're just trying to get ANY money out of it.

That's what I would think, that's what I usually DO think when I see a book for cheap (and I don't know the author). But I am also an avid reader and will likely overcome my reticence for the simple reason it is a book and I can justify $5 in my budget any day.

Hmm, I'm wondering if that helped or if I just talked in a circle.

Okay, I'm done. And HOLY COW  :o did not see that coming! I don't even know how to feel right now, except to say... this is exactly what I love about these books! I don't know what's coming next (and can I tell ya, that's saying alot) I love it! I'm so excited for #3 now that I think I'm going to go crazy....

I've got way to many things going on in my brain right now, I don't think I'm gonna be able to sleep.

I'm curious Saint E.
You don't like Jordan, you sound like your not too interested in Rowling (other than movies your wife's goes to without you  ;))... so what do you like to read?

Or am I making a wrong assumption about you? ;)
