Books / So did you hear about Chris Paolini's books?
« on: February 02, 2008, 08:59:02 PM »
He's changed it from 3 books to 4 books. I'm probably late on the band wagon here but I just read that and thought it was interesting.

Brandon Sanderson / what does kelsier look like?
« on: January 23, 2008, 03:03:24 PM »
My husband and I were having an argument about this (the friendly type...promise there was no yelling  ;))
HE says that Kelsier  is tall and well muscled. A very tough looking character that the scars on his arms only intensified.

I said that I thought Kelsier was a tall, skinny guy, a little worse for the wear, since he's been to the Pits and it's done it's dirty work on him. Like someone whose spent time doing hard labor and never fully recovered from it.

My husband said I'm wierd, and wrong. (he says I'm weird alot, so I wasn't so offended)

What do you think? Or maybe EUOL can tell us so that I can go back to him with an accurate answer.

Movies and TV / Has anyone seen The Seeker: The dark is rising.
« on: January 13, 2008, 03:55:38 PM »
I think that's it's name. It's on our winter matinee series for the kids and they bought tickets (with their own money) problem is that I read the kids in mind review and it doesn't look like the sort of movie you blindly take a 5 and 6 year old to.

So would you take a 5 and 6 year old to it?

"This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location?"

What does that mean? And why is it that all of a sudden it's asking me?

Books / Right spot for this? An open source...

Book Cataloging program? Does anyone know of one? I found one for Mac's but well, I don't own a Mac.... Now that my bookshelves are piling up, I'm getting a little worried about the fire danger  ;) and want to protect my investments... all 3 bookshelves of them.

I have the entire WOT series, which cost me enough money, add Harry Potter at $25 a book and I've got enough right there to justify the time it will take me to enter them all in. I just would like to do it for free!

Any suggestions?

So I was just thinking about Mistborn well I was really reading some annotations and Brandon had noted how women were weird cause we want the clothing detailed. I just thought it was worth noting that my FAV scene is when Vin is running over the rooftops and she rips the dress off cause it's to cumbersome. I thought, Yes! that's what any logical warrior would do! Men forget to add this stuff!

Absolute favorite scene... well at least right now!  ;)

Writing Group / lets talk revision
« on: December 04, 2007, 03:34:34 AM »
Now that we have these great manuscripts I'm wondering how everyone revises, what are some tips, tried and true tricks, anything you would warn against. How do you go about revising?

Brandon Sanderson / Wow! #2
« on: November 03, 2007, 05:26:51 AM »
Okay, I'm done. And HOLY COW  :o did not see that coming! I don't even know how to feel right now, except to say... this is exactly what I love about these books! I don't know what's coming next (and can I tell ya, that's saying alot) I love it! I'm so excited for #3 now that I think I'm going to go crazy....

I've got way to many things going on in my brain right now, I don't think I'm gonna be able to sleep.

Books / That was such a great book but....
« on: October 10, 2007, 04:55:55 PM »
Have you ever had a book that you just loved, and can't remember the title or author of? I've got several, mostly from my childhood, but it kills me. (I've started writing down all the books I read)

there was this one about a girl who goes to visit family for the summer, at some point early on she wants to get away for a while (or something) so she goes out onto the lake to this little island, (now I can't remember if there's ruins on the island or not) while she's there she finds this old pair of glasses and puts them on, only to discover they reveal what I remember as the ghosts of the island.

It was pretty good, but heck if I can put a title or author to it.

some other ones I love, and remember the names of, are
'The Case of the Vanishing Boy' by Alexander Key
'Dangerous Summer' by Carolyn G. Hart

they are so intertwined with my childhood that the nostalgia hits me like a hurricane when I pick up one of them.

How about you?

Brandon Sanderson / Terrible husband reads to slow...
« on: October 10, 2007, 05:08:37 AM »
As I said on another location, I'm new here. for the specific reason we haven't had the internet, nor do we have TV...
anyway our lack of information had hit an all time high (can you believe I didn't know they executed Saddam until two months later  ???) so we've given in and gotten the newspaper and the internet, but I didn't even catch that Mistborn 2 was out till last month when it was in the SFBC catalog...
(shaming I know)

So in a flurry of excitement I order it immediately, wait by the door every day for the mail man, and when it comes my husband utters the fateful words...

"I'm so excited! We can read it together."

Now I would have put my foot down at this point had it not been for Harry. You see, I absolutely refused to read HP7 to him until I had read it... I didn't feel I could do that again.
-sigh- so here we are... on Chapter 22

"We can read a chapter a night!" he says.
"We'll have so much fun!" he says.

He doesn't know I'm two chapters ahead.

Anyway.... Hello.
