Brandon Sanderson / Re: Warbreaker
« on: April 30, 2009, 03:27:08 AM »
I've read the various drafts multiple times and had to tell myself in like december that I wasn't allowed to read it again until it came out for real so I'll enjoy it more then. (That's what happened when I read Mistborn for the second time about 6 months after I had originally read it. And I work as a cashier and have a lot of down time, so that's where I was reading and the patrons were giving me very odd looks once I started squealing and jumping up and down when I realized that my favorite part was coming up.)

Also, that cover is so pretty, I just want it on my bookshelf. Then again, even if it wasn't pretty I'd want it on my bookshelf... I'm rambling. But yeah, I'm totally getting it =]

Because he's rapidly being turned into a throwaway character?
But seriously, put yourself in his shoes. You know the whole your entire existence is going to be filled with strife, struggle, and boatloads of pain until you eventually die fighting the ultimate evil. Then tell me if your personality doesn't suffer a little.

lolol. true point

I'll see if I can find it, I am writing a term paper on the book after all. I don't know if I'm gonna do another read through though, but if I do I'll keep an eye out

Ah, but my library had gotten skillfully apt at transferring my calls to different departments in order to frustrate me. They get very touchy when I ask them about interlibrary loans outside of Illinois. Tsk tsk.

I'll be honest, not thrilled with some of your choices.
The main ones being:
Vin and Elend

While I LOVE Ellen Page, I just don't see her as Vin
And while I really enjoy Ryan Gosling.... just he is not Elend.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Sex and sexuality in the Mistborn series...missing?
« on: February 02, 2009, 11:07:44 PM »
It was a trilogy and the books were long enough already. There wasn't really a place for it, ya know?
In the first book when Vin was pretending to be a noblewoman and only saw Elend at brief intervals?
In the second where the city was constantly under seige and Vin constantly out and about protecting Elend?
In the third when... things were just about as busy for her as the third?

Allraine and Breeze had sex.
there's one for you.
Sazed felt he wasn't man enough because he couldn't.
Both Spook and Elend felt uncomfortable when Vin was wearing only her shift in the first book.

So the sexual stuff is there, you just have to read between the lines.

Brandon Sanderson / Mistborn in Spanish??
« on: February 02, 2009, 11:00:08 PM »
So, I'm part of the foreign exchange program at my school.
My exchange student came and gave my family a bunch of presents which leads me to believe that I had to do likewise.
While she gave me a bracelet that I never wear I thought it might be a good idea to give her something she can actually use.
Mistborn is my favorite book but I knew that if I was given a book in a language other than my native one, no matter how good it was, I would say thank you but never read it.
So, I was wondering if there is a Spanish version of Mistborn available? I know there's one for Elantris but I couldn't find anything about Mistborn.
Thank you!

We really need some kind of chart to mark this all; my small brain can simply not take note of all this information without a chart. A simple chart, might I add, cause even the poster and the Ars Arcanum just blow my mind.
-- I really wish I had a bigger brain, or a longer attention span.

I'm guessing the prophesies fall by the wayside.
But, I could be sooo wrong.

So I should probably revise my earlier statement. There is technically more than one person named Hoid in the Brandonverse, but only one of them is "the" Hoid.

Wow... now that's gonna confuse me.

I like the name =) Perhaps it is you that is the one popping in everywhere and confusing the hell out of all of us.

I am not familiar with Dragonsteel or Liar.
Good, lol, they refer to the same book. =]

And I'm not completely sure about the Hoid being the same guy.

Tage just clarified that it's the same guy. And why not? A group or anything else seems like a stretch to me.

How could it be the same person? I remember someone saying (either in this thread or the mistborn spoiler thread) that somebody named Hoid dies in the beginning of Liar of Partinel.

And if he really is a planet jumper, is it not possible that he jumps planets by dying on one and being reborn on another? Completely retaining his previous knowledge of course.

How would you get that information from crescents, dots, and spikes?

Crescent = Head
Dot = face

OR

crescent = body
Dot - face

??

No idea, but it seems a little too coincidental to me.

Ok... so, I noticed this last time I was looking at the new allomantic poster and... I don't think I'm crazy but the allomantic symbols kind of look like instructions of some kind on where to put the hemalurgic spikes in a body...

Has anyone mentioned this before? I searched the forums pretty thoroughly and couldn't find anything.
Whatever, doesn't matter.
