Incidentally, YaBB SE has put a lot of effort into correcting security issues lately. The current version is 1.5.2, which really shouldn't be any less secure than YaBB 1 Gold.

I'm in Salt Lake, and have been really anxious to find someone to play with. Unfortunately I work Saturday nights. :(

Well Tage, as I mentioned earlier there are some simple things you can do in-code to make it easier (and more obvious) for people to add pics. But the others around here seem to think you are too lazy to code it. :)

And Spriggan -- the simple method I mentioned is going to consume bandwidth just as much as any other method. If you have pictures on a page, bandwidth is required to download them, regardless of what method you use to display them. Although most dial-up users should be used to the idea that it'll take some time to download large images. The text is going to display in the meantime anyway, so it's not going to affect their ability to read the review.

Of course, you could always 1) require that <img>'s are no larger than, say, 300x200, or 2) tell people to use <a href="URL/image.jpg"> tags instead of <img> tags, which will of course let them decide whether or not to click on the link and display the image.

If you guys decided to allow reviewers to add pics via a simple method like this, you should have a note somewhere on the Review submission page explaining how to do this.

I'm only going to comment on the copyright laws bit -- I think its interesting that your worried about Iraqis being forced to adhere to American copyright laws, when what we've just done is liberate them from a brutal dictator who, among other things, carefully controlled the press and tortured and executed people who spoke poorly of him. Copyright laws only really become an issue when you have Freedom of Speech to begin with.

As for American copyright laws, I will say they tend to be an inconvenience for someone as poor as I am, but I still believe that they are a vital part of our legal system. These days its more important than ever that a person or company is allowed to maintain their rights to IP that they've produced. Point being, I don't think anyone is actually "oppressed."

Ok, I'm through.

Coding isn't necessary at all if you just do it the lazy-man's way. Just have reviewers put an image tag -- like <img src="http://www.timewastersguide.com/reviewerimages/myfile.jpg"> -- at the appropriate spot in their review, for instance. Sure, its slighty less professional looking, but it also gives the reviewers control of image placement in their reviews.

If you guys can come to some sort of agreement regarding copyright issues and bandwidth consumption, showing pictures in reviews is itself an extremely simple task to accomplish. There are all sorts of super-fancy ways to handle it in PHP/MySQL with very little effort, but you could even just stick a simple HTML tag in the article text, and have reviewers e-mail Fellfrosch (or somebody) an image to be FTP'd to the appropriate directory on the server.

What? Switching to YaBB SE?? Woohoo! I love YaBB SE. Could be because I'm very experienced with PHP and hardly at all with Perl, but whatever.
