I have dreams of putting together a streamlined RP system specifically for forum play (play-by-post). If there's interest in such a thing, I may actually invest time into it..

Oh, and this is my first post in 3 years. My second in 5.

And... now I'm back. Have I already mentioned this? Well anyway, Hi.

In about 40 hours I'll be on my way to the MTC in Provo, prepping for a mission in St. Louis Missouri.

I'll be allowed to email on P-days, so in case any of my old friends still hang out here, my email follows -- hopefully such that bots won't catch it. Obviously, ignore whitespace.

Everything Else / Brian Lacy's Mission Call
« on: September 21, 2004, 02:21:24 PM »
I received my mission call on Sept 15! I'm going to St. Louis, Missouri, and I leave on November 3rd (my 25th birthday).

I haven't participated in this forum for quite some time -- maybe since S.E. brought AORP to a close (I was Master Providian in that game) -- and the majority of you don't even know who I am. But I wanted to let everyone know, because those I've met are great people, and this is a great forum -- and because a couple of you have been good friends.

Those who might be interested in writing occasionally have my email address. To the rest of you -- perhaps I'll stop in again in a couple of years. :)

Brian Lacy,
Prodigal

Hi there. I haven't posted anything or even really visited in as much as a month, and thats probably my average frequency. Always appreciated the site, but I don't really spend time online the way I used to. Mostly I come here when Eric Ehlers points me to a thread, and I only talk to him once every couple of weeks or so. Things have just been pretty busy ever since I moved back to Cache Valley.

These days I'm a web programmer at a local software company (http://www.lpsoftware.com if you care). I'm also working toward turning in my mission papers -- no, I'm not young, I turn 25 in November; I just have accomplished little since high school, though I have high expectations for the future. ;)

I came to learn about TWG through Eric, who I met several years ago while working with him in Provo.

And thus concludeth mine Egospiel.

What's this? / What System?

What game system was used for that superheroes game that was run on this board early last year?

AORP is Dead! Long live AORP!

Eric, it has been a true pleasure from the beginning to the end to participate in this game. I know that toward the end some others found they were posting more out of duty than enjoyment, but that was never the case for me as you know -- I never tired of it.

Anyway. I realize my character (Providian) was never central to the overarching plot, but I'd definitely be interested in knowing what, if anything, was intended to happen to him. Otherwise, I respect the decision.

Perhaps at some point I'll attempt running a game here myself. In the meantime, here's hoping I don't completely lose touch.

Goodbye AORP!

I ate at 5 guys when I was in the DC area a few years ago. I honestly, truly couldn't see what the big fuss was about. Sure, they had good burgers, but I'd hardly call them the best in the country, or even in the vicinity. I thought they were pretty ordinary as far as good burgers go.

If anyone has any specific questions I'd be happy to attempt to answer them. Besides working alongside Eric at WinMe support, the required core classes for my degree include A+ cert prep classes, so these days I'm nose-deep in Windows troubleshooting.

Edit: Note that you'd have to email me, since I rarely stop by these boards... I'm just bored (and Truth Be Told, a tad lonely) tonight.

Kije, I'll make that deal.

Oh, and my first act as LHEGKotU will be to push for reforms enabling everyone to do less work and have more bandwidth.

Also, we'll have a goon squad punish Gemm for not thinking that Lord High Emperor God-King of the Universe is a good title (and anything else our -- that's a "royal" plural first person pronoun -- loyal followers want him beaten for).

Seems like you'd be a fantastic LHEGKotU. Unfortunately we believe the position is already filled. We will investigate and get back to you with details on our findings.

So I was thinking... how would people like to play a Sharpes Regiment Style game. Modeled after Flintloque and using Savage worlds again. With orcs and elves (Orc's are King Georges own and Elves are the Bully Emperors, oh and we're fighting for Halfling Gurillas of the penninsula) Theres secret missions, derring do and the occasional Halfling lass.

:o Uhh, duh.. Wha..??

No, but LOTR would be. Er.. sort of, anyway. I guess it depends on whether you care to connect Middle Earth with Europe and consider them one, as per Tolkien lore.

Hey, if someone wants to run a LOTR I'd love to give it a try! I didn't notice the Avast Ye game in time, so I'm free, at least.

I have to give fair warning that my schedule is pretty busy these days, but I will try really really hard to keep up.

Speaking of Attack of Opportunity, care to give us a brief sampling? I'm very curious what they may or may not have done with that section in particular.

Rants and Stuff / Re: 1984?

I think a program like this is just a way for parents who have raised their children poorly to pay up to $40,000 to feel better about themselves. I'm not saying that good parents can't have disrespectful children, but in a case so extreme that the parent feels the need to send their kids to a facility like this, it suggests that the child never recieved any meaningful guidance from his/her parents growing up.

Also, I wonder about the potentially negative long term effects of the program. They may be providing the youth with discipline and a grounding in important values (wisdom, respect, yada yada), but it sounds to me like they may be stripping away as much as they're teaching -- such as self respect and appreciation for one's individual qualities. They are becoming familiar with structure and respect for authority to such an extreme that it may be at the expense of curiosity and problem solving. Even in the military one is encouraged to be more -- we all know that "be all you can be" is the US Army's slogan -- not "be exactly what we want you to be."

1984, indeed.

If I screwed up so badly as a parent, I'd sooner send my child to military school than a conformity-conditioning facility, which is what this Tranquility Bay sounds like to me. [Of course its difficult to be certain with the unbalanced reporting in the article.]
