Everything Else / Re: Army of Kije

The Army is growing yet again!  We have a new recruit coming into the fold, due to begin active service on Thanksgiving Day this year.  Ours is a covert, low-profile organization and so all details about the inductee are being kept under wraps.  Supreme Commander Kije (aka my wife) is sick with anticipation (literally) and we're trying to get Vice Admiral Kije (my daughter) ready for not being the only junior officer.   I am interested to see how supervising two junior officers stacks up to only one.  Well, anyways...

Rants and Stuff / Re: These Stupid Titles VI

I'm posting here because it's been so long that I've forgotten what my title is.  Whatever it is I'm sure it's cool.  Cool as in a) stupid, b) awesome, c) megatastic (mega + fantastic,) or d) vorpal.  Multiple choice allows me to change my mind.

I think the whole idea of titles is awesome and megatastic.

So...It's not even November, and it actually took me 2+ years instead of 30 days, and it did ramble for significantly more that 50K...but I finally finished a novel.  And I have to say, it feels pretty damn good.

Site News / Re: Rifftrax is a no-go---but we're still having a party

It has been sooo long since I have been here!  Anyways, I heard about the fiesta from Fell and EUOL and would like to come, but I can't remember where you live, Nessa (I was at the Reign of Fire Rifftrax shindig.)  My email is on my profile.  Would you be able to send your address?  If you're not comfortable with that, I can try and bug Dan and Brandon some more.

either Thursday 0r Saturday works fine for me, but I need directions to Nessa's.  (If you're uncomfortable giving directions to a stranger ask Fell, Sprig, EUOL, or St. E for a reference.)  Either post or send to n8hatfield at hotmail dot com.  Thanks!

You know we could do both Thurs and Sat if people want.  My place (in north Orem) is open whenever.

Everything Else / LTUE

This thread is primarily for those who will be attending the Life, the Universe, and Everything Science Fiction and Fantasy Symposium at BYU in Provo, Utah in mid February.  Not to be exclusive or anything, just putting the thread in context.

So I have returned to TWG wanting to know if anyone is getting together during LTUE, and have no tolerance for scouring the boards searching for a discussion of this topic which probably exists but in some other thread called "amazing things on the internet" or "why I hate Nutella" or some other nonsense like that :).  So--is anyone planning any get-togethers during LTUE?  My wife is abandoning me that week and I'd like something to do besides go home after work and be by myself.

So it's official: on Tuesday, August 29th at 1:43 our newest recruit reported for duty.  Vice Admiral Kije (aka Sofia Ondine Hatfield) weighed in at 9 lbs. 10 oz.  The officer in charge of induction, Supreme Commander Kije (aka Katie) is in fine condition as well.  Thanks all for your congratulations!

Uniforms?  You can wear whatever you fancy.  Our latest recruit is reporting for duty naked.

And pillaging, and dead hearts, and whatnot...hmmm.  All I can say is we're terribly guerilla.  In many senses of the word, but not any that come off as lacking in coolness and savoir-faire.

But you all should know better than to ask such silly questions.  If I told you any more, I'd have to have you all fashionably assassinated, of course.

We are awaiting the induction of our newest recruit!

The latest is that if he/she (in true superhero fashion the new arrival is keeping every detail about its identity secret) does not show up on her/his own, then he/she will be coming whether she/he likes it or not on August 29th.

Oh, and if anyone else wants to join this fantastic guerilla army feel free to enlist!  (We can't give you anything above sergeant, though.  To be commissioned is a rather exclusive process.)

Free Cities conceptual = 95% complete

Free Cities writeup = 20% complete

I know I said I'd have free cities in about two months ago...

but honestly - I was finalizing some details on it when you submitted Parth, and that info really helped.  I won't make any promises, but it's much further than it was two months ago.

Anyone heard much about this?  I found it interesting as I had been reading a bit about Viking expansion in the North Atlantic recently.  From trailers it looks like they depict the Vikings as bloodthirsty hateful killers, which isn't too far fromt he truth if historical accounts of Viking and Native American contact are to be believed.  (Of course they weren't that stereotypically violent.  But honestly, when it came to first contact, with the Vikings it often was kill first, then wound, then maim, and maybe think about asking questions the next day during breakfast.

Ah, clix clix clix.  It's good to see some interest in the games, and a team article up today.  I sold my figs because of my low tolerance for collectibility/obsoleteness but still think the games are a blast.  I'd be interested in seeing firsthand what kind of twist horroclix takes on the clix idea.

Sorry - I've taken a good two years and haven't followed through yet either.

I've got my background pretty well set to start writing the Free Cities.  It should be in in a week or so.
