Sweet... I'll certainly give it a shot. I have a number of friends who already want to kill me for not finishing stories... :P

Brandon Sanderson / Re: For the Crew: Elmandr's Bet *SPOILERS*
« on: October 22, 2008, 11:31:54 PM »
It might help if we just pull up what was actually said when we were discussing it...

Quote
I would like to announce something.

If Vin Doesn't unite with the mist spirit, i will eat my hat. Yes, i did say "eat my hat."

and i mean it, if it so happens that she doesn't, i will post a picture of me eating a ketchup covered cap...

But if it does happen--i am to be addressed--by all who post the word "aye" (indicating their challenge)--as Sir Elmandr1.

So, who's up for it?
(Emphasis added.)

Quote
Since i have placed a rather risky bet on this.

In general. What do you guys think of idea of the HOA and the Mist spirit uniting.

Let me elaborate before you answer...

to me, or i believe, that the mist spirit is the collective souls of the HOA's of the past.

And that the HOA of today must unite with the mist spirit to destroy Ruin...That would explain why Ruin would want the world to think it evil--and that why i think it changed that part of the prophecy as well.

I don't think that deepness is the correct word.

Ruin altered it--i don't know what the word actually is but thats no it.

Vin wields the mists once...it essentially gives her powers that no other HOA can have...

Mist spirit has control over mist...

mist is formless mass of infinite energy...

so, what do ya'll think?

So there you have it!

He's guilty. And while his bet could be construed another way such as in this quote:
Quote
I think that the HOA is supposed to be endowed with the Mist Spirit.
Which could mean absorbing mists instead... I still think that's too far of a stretch.

However, Chaos was the only one that I found who accepted the challenge, and therefore is the one to legally enforce it.

On another note, I should point out that Marsh didn't die, so Elmandr1 doesn't have to eat his hat for that:

I agree that Marsh has to die, though it will make me very sad when it happens.  But I think at least one other main character will die too.

Must you be so grim?

He won't Die!

if he does, i'll eat my hat--do you agree to do the same if he doesn't?

this challenge goes for you as well, miyabe! Grin

Although SarahG only agreed to eat a chocolate in the shape of a hat, so I guess she should do that. ;)

(All these quotes are from the Countdown Thread, except this last one, which is from What will happen in HOA.)

I also was kind of against it. I just kept pointing out that we didn't know. Mostly, though, I was the one who thought that TLR touched Ruin and not Preservation.  :-\

That's good advice.

EDIT: Maybe we could submit designs to EUOL's website, have a dialog with him about which one(s) would be best to make, and then get them straight from the website. Not that anything would happen before the book tour was over... I'll email it in. :)

Suggestions Box / Re: What was the worst film ever made?
« on: October 22, 2008, 10:55:23 PM »
Excluding MST3K, I've only seen D&D, and that was a horrific movie, and the first one that came to mind when I saw the title of the thread.

I won't even watch Disney sequels, but I know they've gotta rank up there.

I think there comes a point when movies are so bad you can't distinguish them anymore. And all those movies hit past that point.

Hrmm, perhapse it was because she was inside and it was daylight when she had it out? That's my best guess.

I don't think so.     She had to draw on the mist to fight Marsh off after he healed from the erring.     She hit him with a mist based soothing that made him run away.       So the mist was out at the time.   Then she went directly out to help the army - she did not waste any time looking for the erring - at least it did not mention it in her POV and it would not have made any sense.    "Sorry guys - I know you are getting killed by Koloss but I simply MUST find my erring first!"

I think it's because Kelsier already had the power. He kind of gives it to her when she's about to die later, but he's already seized control of it when Vin does that. And if Preservation could see into  the future, it's possible Kelsier could. At least enough to see that she needs to take out all those inquisitors.

Who all's invited to this? I just want to make sure it's not just an administrator party before I ask if I can come. :)

Would someone with Achlorhydia have difficulties burning metals? That is, do stomach acids have anything to do with the equation or just the fact that the metals make it to the stomach?
Remeber the Atium burning obligator? He just wore his metal on the forehead. It seems that all you need to do in order to burn metals is to simply have it in contact with your physical self. Course that's usually inefficient since another can take it away from you.
That was an extra bead for emergencies; Atium burns quickly.

Over for some years... After Brandon gets a few seconds together to breath, maybe we'll see some more. :)

2) Exactly how did Zane's cutting himself help to block Ruin's voice?

When in a blood frenzy the Koloss (or the inquisitors, for that matter) they become harder to control. At least, that's what makes sense to me. I think it relates to that.

So are all these epic novels in the same universe? Elantris, Mistborn, Dragonsteel, all that?
