Rants and Stuff / Inter-office politics go too far
« on: December 22, 2004, 01:06:06 AM »
My boss got fired today.  I like my boss, he was a good guy who worked his butt off to do a good job and get things done. People like him and want to help him.

Today I find he's been fired in favor of  the new manager who was hired a few months back and is a complete idiot, who does maybe HALF the work Mark did and does it poorly ( like loosing raise requests we turned in for agents).  Apparently this new guy  had been making all sorts of surrepeticious complaints about him to management about how he "never gets anything done."  Pot? Kettle.

And you know what?  He's insulted his bosses before, said they don't knowwhat they're doing - in front of me and  other witnesses.  When we had a meeting to complain and discuss it, he denied it all. Said we were making it up or must have been misinterpreting what he said.  And management just eats it up because he's their  little golden boy.

So my boss lost his job today.  Because apparently every single problem our account is having right now was his fault.

Right.   The other team leads and I feel very angry and betrayed right  now.  Let's see how that kind of work environment helps productivity.

Everything Else / Gemm's word requests
« on: November 23, 2004, 03:30:20 AM »
Gemm, I don't know if you'd like to take on this responsibility, but you might be surprised how many things there aren't any words for.

So I propose that when we need a new word coined, we post the definition here and Gemm makes up a word that fits the definition.

What say ye, Sir Gemm-a-lot?

Rants and Stuff / Surrealness
« on: November 13, 2004, 03:46:17 AM »
So i was thinking today on my way home, being very tired and listening to "Flood", and I was wondering why we (I) like things that are very surreal - I mean, I know why off-the-wall things are funny.  If you're expecting one thing and you get another, that's funny.

I think there's some kind of  thrill of hearing words put together in a combination that's never been used before.

I mean, THINK of the enormity- the english language as we know it has been around for like 500 years at least or something and yet until 1990 I bet no one ever uttered the sentence "Everybody wants prosthetic foreheads on their real heads."  I mean - WOW.  Of the millions of english-speaking people who have lived, it has to take real work to come up with a new sentence that hasn't been used before!

And so, I think Gemm is an artist.

Rants and Stuff / Technology awe.
« on: November 10, 2004, 02:25:13 PM »
So what technology puts you in awe?

So I consider myself to be fairly comfortable with technology in general.  I ooo and ahh over the newest gadget inventions with the rest of the world, but consider this.

In our house, we have two desktop computers, two laptop computers.  We have a DSL internet connection and at work I have a T3 connection.  We own a digital camera, a cell phone, a digital drawing tablet, a CD burner, almost every gaming console ever created, two televisions and two VCRs (which let's face it, rarely get used), a digital voice recorder, .... you get the idea.

And yet every time I turn on the automatic ice maker in my freezer, I just stare in awe.

Books / Banewreaker
« on: October 31, 2004, 03:04:17 PM »
So the tracking info says Amazon will have my copy of Banewreaker to me tomorrow.

I'd like to write a review of it and was planning to do one for TLE.  Can I do one for TWG too, or is anyone else planning to do one?

Writing Group / Beginnings, Middles, Endings
« on: October 25, 2004, 01:58:38 AM »
Does anyone else suffer from this syndrome?  I can't START at the beginning of a story; I have to start in the middle and it just causes all kinds of trouble later on.  But the only way for me to get over writer's block is to skip to the middle or end of a story.

I've often thought I need to hook up with someone who is excellent at beginning stories, but blanks out in the middle, and co-write with them...

Advice?

Movies and TV / The Forgotten *some spoilers*
« on: October 23, 2004, 02:04:06 AM »
Saw this movie today, and it was pretty good.  It's gotten some poor reviews, but I liked it.  Some reviews have compared it to the X-Files and that is very accurate.  If you like the X-Files, just think of this movie as a long x-file ep with the wonderful and rather foxy Julianne Moore taking Scully's place, and Dominic West as a very sexy Mulder.

It's not a scary movie any more than any X-Files episode is, but Brenna should know there are exactly three scary parts; two "jump" scenes and one that's just scary.

Had to look up the police woman to find out she had recently been Mrs. Whatsit in the "Wrinkle in Time" TV thing.

Not going to win any awards, but if I find it on sale someday, I'd definitely pick up the DVD.

I did like that they did foreshadow the whole ending.  It was very Matrix-like almost, the way that the NSA would be chasing them and then suddenly *something* would get in the way so they could escape once more.  This happened at LEAST three times, and I noticed it.  The shots from the sky were good, too, and the clouds and their movements also interesting.

Everything Else / Who wants to go to a last-minute convention?
« on: October 20, 2004, 08:28:23 PM »
Yeah so my husband is going to Denver for a convention this weekend, "Mile-High Con".  Car is rented and hotel is reserved but now no one else from Lucid raven can go.

So if any of you people in Utah would like to go to the convention for free and have a free hotel stay and keep my husband company while he drives, let one of us know tonight.

Leave sometime tomorrow, depending on when you need to go, and coming back late Sunday.

Everything Else / Promotion!
« on: September 23, 2004, 11:43:53 AM »
So I just wanted to tell everyone who does or doesn't care, as of yesterday, I officially got promoted.  I'm now a Team Lead - which basically means one of the head supervisor at our call center.  I get to be in charge of about 25 people and am responsible for their all doing good jobs.

And I get salary.

Mustard, I give up.  What's up with all the new names?  Is it really necessary to have like 8 accounts?
