Everything Else / October TLE
« on: November 27, 2005, 06:01:58 PM »
Hey, I heard this was being printed, and the website says it's out...did it get mailed? Not that I am subscribing, even though I used to say it should be mandatory for every former editor to subscribe, but I noticed that it has not shown up yet on Locus in the list of magazines received, and it's already the end of November.

Movies and TV / Fall 2005 TV Season
« on: September 14, 2005, 11:44:48 AM »
So, what's good/good coming this fall TV season?

Cartoon Network is showing the insanely huge hit anime Naruto on Saturdays at 9 PM. It started last week...this Saturday the 3rd episode is on, and that's a good point to start if you missed the first 2 last week. (Most of the main story and character introduction doesn't start until the third episode, except for the main character, of course.) VIZ is doing a great job with this anime (unlike they did with the manga), so I recommend watching it.

Everything Else / Baltimore?
« on: August 12, 2005, 05:37:18 PM »
Is there anyone near Baltimore a week from Monday? I'm going to be there most of the day with nothing to do (our booth takedown has to be done by midnight Sunday night, but I'm not flying out until 5 PM or so).

Rants and Stuff / Quark disinheriting the Quantum Duck?!?!
« on: August 03, 2005, 01:06:40 PM »
From the Quark home page:

Quote
What is Quark's Mascot?

Hmm... Good question. Let me go ask the president.

...

Well, that's interesting. We don't have a mascot. Know what that means? That's right, it's CONTEST time!

The task: Create a character that will represent our club from here on forever until the end of time...

Quark already HAS a mascot that will represent it until the end of time. If they don't want the quantum duck, for whose vocalizations the club is named, they should change the name of their club!!

Everything Else / Anime Expo

Anyone else going?

Went today. Had a good time. I like getting in free. And I didn't even have to work the booth.

Will probably go back Monday morning to see the music videos.

Everything Else / Who turned in my HumPub key??????
« on: June 03, 2005, 07:29:03 PM »
Hey!

I just got an email saying that my key to the Humanities Publication Center got turned in to the Key Office, and that I can pick up my deposit in 285 BRWB.

Who turned my key in? I don't even remember who I gave it to when I graduated FOUR YEARS AGO. I assume it has passed through several TLE staffers' hands since then. I meant for it to be of use until the end of time... What prompted this?! Is the HumPub moving from Crandall House West or something?

Brandon Sanderson / Mystery Project
« on: May 08, 2005, 05:09:48 PM »
Why am I not surprised?

My vote is that it's NOT the third Mistborn book and NOT an Elantris sequel and NOT a rewrite of something else either, though it may recycle some ideas.

[EDIT: and it's also NOT a novel in the Mystery genre!]

Brandon Sanderson / Annotations
« on: May 02, 2005, 08:55:23 PM »
Title page annotation is up, but it seems to have a bunch of <> tags in it.

It mentions pronunciations..."'Adonis' (Pronounced with a hard 'A' and a hard 'O')"... umm...this means nothing! Hard 'a'? Hard 'o'? Consonants can be hard, but vowels cannot be hard. What the heck are you talking about? Please provide examples, like "a as in aardvark" or "a as in alone" or "a as in acorn" or "a as in apple" (all pronounced differently, all recognizable for Americans).

More later...

Music / Ookla the Mok news!
« on: April 21, 2005, 10:33:03 AM »
Ookla the Mok has a new CD out called Dave Lennon. It's a rather odd collection of tracks. You can hear some of them (and buy the CD) at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/ooklathemok05

I really, really like the "spot the cat" song. Anyway, I'll tell you all what I think when the CD arrives...

Brandon Sanderson / Publisher's Weekly

That pub weekly review was very good! I think they made an excellent summary of the book, hitting most of the important introductory bits in a few short sentences. Nice!

Everything Else / Wedding pics
« on: April 01, 2005, 12:26:51 PM »
Heya! Got some preliminary pics for you. These are the ones that my sister Helena took with her fancy-schmancy camera. None of you guys were snapped by her...we'll get the official pictures sometime later and some of you will probably show up...

Everything Else / If you're coming to my wedding reception, RSVP NOW
« on: March 20, 2005, 10:58:04 PM »
Hey everyone...my wedding is THIS FRIDAY.

No one except my parents has RSVPd at all, so if you are going to go to the reception (and I hope you do) please RSVP now. If you don't have the info that was on the wedding invitations (none of the invitations got sent back in the mail as undeliverable so I'm assuming so far that the addresses were correct), the number you are supposed to RSVP to is Roland Holt (Karen's grandfather) at (801)561-1584.

This is NOT a "line up at one door and go out the other door" like many Utah receptions. There aren't going to be a huge number of people there. You're the only people I'm inviting that I actually care if they show up. I don't have any relatives in Utah, just some people who are friends of my parents from being in wards together in the past who I don't even really know at all or if I did it was when I was like 10 years old.

There's going to be a soup & salad bar and it will start at 6:00. If you want to just have cake then show up at 7:00, but they need a headcount so please do RSVP. Maybe it is gauche to contact people this way but it's seriously the only way I talk to anyone here so it's what I'm doing...

So again, the wedding reception location is the clubhouse of Brookstone Condos, 1630 East 6400 South, Salt Lake City, from 6-8 P.M. Please RSVP to Roland Holt at (801)561-1584.
