Movies and TV / Fame remake
« on: June 29, 2009, 06:36:29 AM »
I heard about this a while ago, but they've finally got a trailer for it out.  I'm trying to decide if it looks really bad or really good:

[url\http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywGNmsGoMl0[/url]

I'm betting that with the modern bit they'll take out the whole almost getting into porn thing with Coco, and they'll add a lot more sex to the bit where the innocent girl and her b/f hang out for the night (it's been about a year since I watched the movie last, so I don't remember their names.)

What are everyone else's thoughts?

Rants and Stuff / A word to the wise
« on: June 24, 2009, 08:14:30 PM »
Don't go through moneygram online to send any money.

I've done this to my car payment, and twice now it's caused more headache then it should.

I have a debit visa card, and what they do is put the charge on my account twice -- once for my actual checking account and once for the credit side of things.  Then they'll first try to get the money from my checking account.  If for some reason it doesn't go through they'll try it with my visa account (a.k.a. the same freaking account!)  If the first charge goes through they drop the second one.

So when I try to go and buy something it gets denied because I don't have enough money.  When I call the bank to find out why they tell me my account is going to be over $200 in the hole.

Well, great, so now I can't buy all the things I need because they're holding onto all of the money I have in my checking account.

So today I needed that money to buy a couple of things, and I checked my account and saw that they had taken the money out.  So I figured, "Hey, I'm good to go.  They have their money so I should have mine."  NOPE!  Once they money is taken OUT of my account, they still have the other charge on my account for a week.  So pretty much all of my money is held hostage until I get my other paycheck.

I called them to find out what was going on, and request that they take off the second charge since they should have their money.  (I had this happen to me once before, and they took care of it with no problems.  They did a three way call with my bank and had it taken care of.)  THIS time though they said "Sorry, since we did this in Febuary, we can't do that now.  If you bank sends us a fax..."  We told them that the bank wouldn't do that because they didn't consider it a secure way of doing business.  So then we told them about the confrence call, and the chick put us on hold.  When she came back she was like "sorry, we can't do that anymore."

So basically they refused to work with us AT ALL.  And that lady was just flat out rude.  She kept on interupting us, and my mum (who I handed the phone over to so I didn't yell at the lady a lot) ended up yelling at her "LET ME FINISH MY STATEMENT" and she replied "No."

I've never had any problems with using the store transfers, but don't use the online thing.

Rants and Stuff / Male Prom Queen
« on: May 30, 2009, 04:50:43 AM »
I saw this artical today, and thought it was really cool and just wanted to share it.  I think it's really awesome, both his creative thinking, and the fact that the school supported him enough to vote him into position.

Role-Playing Games / The Wedding
« on: November 24, 2008, 08:07:10 PM »
I walked into the room, nearly reeling from the overpowering smell of bacon.  And really, it wasn't that surprising when I thought about it, since everywhere I looked there were things that had to do with the meat.  I wasn't sure, but I was pretty sure that there was even bacon glued to the lights.  Really, it was kind of making me hungry.

It looked like I was the first one to get there, but I knew there was going to be more coming in.  After all, we had all been there from the beginning.  We had watched him become amazed by her europian origins and propose on the spot.  Ah, love at first site is an amazing thing.  Sitting down, I waited for someone else to come in.

Writing Group / Suggested reading?
« on: November 17, 2008, 08:07:23 PM »
I was just wanting a list of suggested reads for someone like me who wants to be an author to keep up with.  I'm not talking novels or how to books, I'm thinking more things like writing magazines, or news feed websites that focus on the writing world (and more specifically (at least for me) the fantasy writing world).  So any suggestions would be really great.

Brandon Sanderson / AvSB - The Found Lense
« on: October 30, 2008, 07:55:55 AM »
Okay, so I was just glancing through AvSBs, and saw the part where Al tries the lense he finds in the cript of Al the first, and it doesn't do anything, and wanted to get some thoughts as to what others thought it did.

My personal thoughts are that it either sepresses any talent, or else just the breaking talent.  (I'm leaning more towards the latter).  So while it may not seem to have done anything when he tried it, the truth was it actually did, it just wasn't noticable.  That would also make since with how adament Al-I was about how bad the breaking talent really is.

I just got my copy of the Oct. newsletter from Tor and the first thing was a blerb about MB and HoA.  You can see it here:

Brandon Sanderson / Bastille a librarian agent?
« on: July 29, 2008, 04:01:55 AM »
When I first went throught AvsEL I thought maybe Bastille knew so much about Oculators because she had trained to me one, and found out she couldn't, or she studied and learned as much as she could because she knew from the beginning she couldn't, or a third option that she used to have a talent but somehow lost it.

However when I was just rereading the book I had the idea come to me - what if she was actually a lirary agent?  What better way to know your main enemies moves?

Now mind, I haved finished the book, and it's been a while since I read it.  So there might be something said to prove my thoughts wrong.  If not though, I'd love to hear thoughts.

Brandon Sanderson / Warbreaker Cover
« on: July 28, 2008, 09:34:06 AM »
I was being bored on youtube tonight, and was typinging in different book titles I love (there are some weird videos on there if you type in the right book titles... O.o) and I stumbled across this.  I think it's way cool to watch.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqjWP18hPHE

My only issue is the white hair.  Unless I forget myself, that means that Siri (because I don't think Viv would ever wear something like that.  Even at the end she's too conservitive for such an outfit.) is scared... but then again, considering the sword I assume they have, it might be a proper thing anyways.

Brandon Sanderson / Jewlery!
« on: April 05, 2008, 06:47:32 AM »
I was checking this site out because I knew they had wheel of time jewlery (actually, I was checking the spelling) and found this great little link that said "Get jewlery for the man who's going to finish the series".  I clicked, and found some great pieces!

Now it's just a matter of getting the money.

Brandon Sanderson / torrent!
« on: February 01, 2008, 10:32:20 PM »
I was bored yesterday so I decided to do a search for EUOL in utorrent, and to my surprise I found that you can actually now torrent Elantris.  Now, don't get me wrong.  I'm not saying you should in any way.  I just feel like to be able to be downloaded like that in our internet-central world it says something about how famous you are...

Brandon Sanderson / Hero of Ages cover
« on: January 14, 2008, 02:56:53 AM »
Okay, I tried to find if this had already been posted but couldn't find it.  Sorry if it's a double post.

I was looking on the net today and found this: http://bp1.blogger.com/_YhrLAYLQ8So/RwE3sCgCAaI/AAAAAAAABFc/voaEq3xD1rE/s1600-h/The+Heroe+of+Ages.jpg

I must say, I really like the cover.  It's a bit lighter than the others, but I have to agree with the comment that was made in the interview: I like it the best so far.

Brandon Sanderson / HP: DH Release party
« on: July 19, 2007, 01:14:18 AM »
I was just wondering what the plan for the HP release party was?  I've heard about all sorts of stuff that's going on, and was wondering how you'll fit in and if your going to dress up... (Guilty of being a huge Potter geek...)
