Brandon Sanderson / Re: Jewlery!
« on: April 14, 2008, 07:44:53 AM »
They approached us, actually.  The company is in Salt Lake, and a member was in a book club that read ELANTRIS.  They invited me to come visit the book club when they read the book, and she mentioned her jewelry company.  A year later, here we are!

I am going to start previews on these this week on my website, and so if you've been waiting to order until you can get them directly from me, we'll be launching very soon.

Badali is a great company, and I've been very pleased with the association we've had with them.  They are interested in doing MISTBORN works too, but whether or not we do that will depend on how well the ELANTRIS ones sell.  (hint hint)

Indeed!  Bedali has done an excellent job with these pieces, and I'm very pleased. We'll actually be selling them through my own website here starting in a week or so, and I intend to do previews of each Aon with a longer explanation of each one, its meaning, and the things it can do in AonDor.  So, keep a watch on the blog, it might help you decide which one you'd be interested in getting!

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Brandon mentioned by Robin McKinley

Aw, too bad it wasn't Robin herself.  Maybe I should email her and mention that The Blue Sword is an old favorite of both myself and my wife.  Actually, Pemberly required that I read it through again before our wedding, just to make sure.  ;)

This is actually useful, so thanks for the topic.  I'm aware of most of this, of course, but there's always the chance that I'll miss something.  So, if there are questions you are looking to have answered in Book Twelve, go ahead and post them.  I don't promise to answer them, and I probably will stay away from posting any further on the thread for fear of giving spoilers, but I WILL look and you might catch something.  (Though, there are several websites where this exact sort of information is collected.)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Gemmel

Gemmel (named, by the way, as an homage to the fantasy novelist) will make an appearance in the aforementioned prequel short story.  Right now, that will probably be first published in the official Mistborn RPG, since that deal looks like it's going to go through.  The story will cover Kelsier's Snapping, his escape from the pits, his training with Gemmel, and his discovery of the eleventh metal.  Theoretically.  It's one of those projects I'm not allowed (by myself) to work on until AMoL is done.

Nice indeed.  Well done!  I like the creepy look of it.

Did you ever see the 'fan art' piece I did of an Inquisitor.  (Can an author do fan art of his own work?)  I was trying to mock up something that would work as a nice wallpaper, but I was never satisfied with it.  Posted it here once, with an added "Warning, this didn't come out quite right."

In case you missed it, here's the wallpaper which actually DID turn out kind of cool:

Brandon Sanderson / I'm not ignoring you...
« on: March 04, 2008, 02:42:59 AM »
Just wanted to give a thankful post to all of you who are discussing the various interplays of the magic and setting in the Mistborn books.  I work quite hard on the magic and related cosmology in my books, and it's gratifying to find these issues drawing attention and interest from readers.

I did want to make a note that I intentionally restrain myself from posting on those threads.  I'm not ignoring you, and I'm interested in what you have to say, but at this point I feel that author intervention would be inappropriate to the discussion.  Because of this, I may occasionally miss questions or comments on threads that really do require my attention.  (Like the Interested in Publication thread that was posted a while back.)

If you've got questions or posts that you think need my direct attention, feel free to make note of that in the subject of the thread.

Next Con is Conduit in Salt Lake.  May, I think.  After that, Denver Worldcon is the best the area has to offer this year.  (Though I'll be heading a little farther out and hitting BEA and ALA in between.)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Elantris *singing* instructions

Sigh.  Does it really say that?  That's the problem with letting a Sanderson (either me or my brother--my brother in this case) be in charge of spelling.  I'll have to fire off an email to Sprig; he's the one in charge of all of this.  ;)

Also, you don't want me doing a Geddy Lee impersonation.  Trust me.

Brandon Sanderson / New Mistborn One Cover Art

Tor is releasing a special 4.99 paperback of MISTBORN: THE FINAL EMPIRE this summer (in June) and they commissioned new cover art for it.  New art is above.  Thoughts?

I found it on Itunes today.  Looks like they got it approved.  A simple search turns it up.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Bookplates Question
« on: February 13, 2008, 10:03:59 AM »
What would be really cool would be an option to get 3 book plates (one for each MB) included with an Elantris order during the sale.   Maybe throw in 3 without personalization for free and charge $3 extra if you want personalized bookplates.  That way you could add some extra value to the Elantris sale instead of cutting the price down like you did with MB1

What a clever idea.  I was wondering how to make a nice 'bonus' for the ELANTRIS sale.  I paid enough for the books that knocking $5 off the price would really hurt.  An offer for up to three bookplates for your Mistborn books would be a great way to work the sale.  Thanks for the idea.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Saze and Sazed
« on: February 10, 2008, 04:03:33 AM »
Vin has a nickname, in a way.  Valette.  Part of my vision for this series was to get across the 'heist' feel to the book by giving everyone in the crew or related to the crew two names--their real name and their nickname.

Kelsier:  Kel
Dockson: Dox
Sazed:  Saze  (I say his name SAY-zed, by the way.  A lot of people say SAH-zed, which is just fine--only the nickname doesn't work as well.)
Elend: El (I say EHL-end, not EEL-end. So, his nickname is pronounced simply like the letter L.)
Ladrian: Breeze
Hammond:  Ham
Cladent: Clubs
Lestibournes: Spook
Marsh: Ironeyes
Vin: Valette (Doesn't work as well, I know, but I liked her having another name to keep on theme.)
OreSeur: Lord Renoux
