A lot of people describe Scalzi’s Old Man's War novels as military science fiction, but I would classify its sequel Zoë’s Tale as a space opera. It’s a story about, well, Zoë, a teenage girl whose parents are invited to take leadership roles in building a colony on a new planet. Yeah, there's no graveyard in the books at all, and no church until the third one, but the image evokes the right feel: this is a guy who spends his life with death. The red tones and the scratched typeface do give it kind of a slasher feel, but I think it's balanced by the overall loneliness of the image--the silhouette in an empty graveyard, the "not" fading into a blank sky, etc.

One of my favorite scenes of all time is in Scream, when the movie geek watches a killer sneak up on a girl in a movie, while a newsman is watching a killer sneak up on the movie geek through a hidden camera, while we in the audience watch a killer sneak up on the newsman. Absolutely brilliant.

His only other significan't work is a short called The Tale of the Rat that Wrote. It's on the Isolation DVD, or you can find it on youtube. Pretty good, though I like Isolation much more.

It has been published in English and German. We have also sold Complex Chinese (which covers Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao) and as of today we just sold Croatian.

I Am Not a Serial Killer has been officially optioned for a movie! Huzzah! It's still very early in the process, so there's not much to say, but feel free to speculate wildly.
