That is assuming that it is the same size as the Earth

It needs to rotate more slowly because the day would be too short otherwise. The comment was more about the size of Roshar rather than anything to do with its gravity.

On the subject of dates, Brandon has mention that gravity is weaker on Roshar which suggests that it is smaller than the Earth and rotates more slowly. Of course, it could be bigger and made of lighter elements.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Cosmere Discussion ***SPOILERS for ALL books***

Since they all take place in the Cosmere.  What if a Feruchemist ate some Lerasium, then went and bought enough biochromatic breath to reach the 10th heightening, and then randomly got picked to become an Elantrian?

p.s. I haven't read WoK yet.

That's nothing, what if a Feruchemist, by some twist of fate, somehow found himself with the power of two Shards, which together have the power to create worlds. Wait... That sounds familiar...

Electrum shows what you will do if you continue your action, if you consciously change your action the shadow will change before it can happen. Also, you could say the same about malatium.

PS when sazed said that there were two more metals, I think he included the two god metals in his count of 16

But he did pay out the spheres for the bribe. Also he surely would have used up a most all of the stormlight earlier.http://

Brandon Sanderson / Limitations of magic in WoK ** spoilers**
« on: August 16, 2011, 08:57:58 PM »
So I was reading WoK recently and the scene when Jasnah killed those men with her soulcasting ability got me thinking, what can soul casting do? Can it effect, for example, a surgebinder, or a Shardbearer, or a Thunderclast? And Surgebinding, how much stronger/faster do you get when holding stormlight? Do the effects get greater the more stormlight you hold? etc. So I posted this thread to see if anyone can tell me the answers to these questions (or at least make up a plausible theory)

But it has already been confirmed that both Kaladin and Dalinar are incredibly skilled anyway. Also, where did Kaladin get his stormlight from if he was surgebinding before we see Syl? He says when he is part of bridge 4 that he has to carry his spheres so no one steals them, which suggests that he did not do so before. So although I do think that Dalinar will become a Radiant, I don't think it is happening yet. (unless, of course, his powers manifested due to his visions from the Almighty)

I think the problem people have is after reading the first 5/6 books, which have quite a lot going on in a moderately sized cast, the series got overloaded with characters. It really shows in book 10 of which my only memory is closing the book two thirds of the way through and thinking there's 10 hours of my life I'm never getting back. Only around book 11 does some of the cast start getting offloaded which left much more room for something meaningful to happen in the last three books.

Also some of the character do fall into cycles of whining to themselves and constantly agonising over things that wouldn't matter if they bothered to get off their ass and make a decision.

So will Brandon bother doing a separate table, or will he just explain the diagram at some over the course of the series and expect you to have the US version.

But if I remember correctly, the Radiants all gained their Powers from spren. If this is the case why haven't we seen any evidence of an intelligent spren around Dalinar like Syl and Kaladin?

On the iron stores Higgs Bosons theory, in practice it would not work because Sazed clearly describes himself falling more slowly when he stores his weight, therefore it must be distorting/storing the effects of gravity as a more massive Sazed would fall at the same rate as a less massive Sazed.

Just rereading the prelude and judging from the information given, it looks like the battle and the honourblades are in makadakam? I considered Shin kak Nish but I remembered that Cultivation lives there.

Any ideas?

Books / Re: Truly unique fantasy worlds
« on: February 24, 2011, 08:43:19 PM »
The thing about fantasy is that almost all different worlds are unique if perhaps rather cliched. It is part of what makes it such a great genre. If you want a very original world, I would recommend Dune. It is sci fi but it really is a classic.

Does the Tamuli count as one book? It's one continuous story with no breaks (I think). My copy came in at around 1600-1700 pages.
