Ha, you guys are cracking me up. One quick thing before I have to go to work, there's a fantasy convention that one of my friends suggested, and I wanted to know if it was any good? The World Fantasy Convention in Texas? What can you expect from those anyway?
PS: You definitely should ALL write romance. I'd love to see the crazy adventures you'd come up with.

Salamat! Nagmission ako sa Cabanatuan. Natawag Ilangapo gnayon (siguro). Gwabe (sp?) talaga on tagalog ko gnayon (mga limang taon nang bumalik ako), cave man na ako, pero ayos lang. Kailangan magpractice ulit.

TRANSLATION: Thank you. I served my mission in Cabanatuan, though I think it's called Ilangapo now. My Tagalog is so bad right now. It's been five years since I've returned and now I'm a cave man, oh well. I need the practice.

Yeah, well, I had no idea they could bring people back to life, that's why I was so upset! But then I guess I really didn't grow up on soap operas either.

Ah hah! That's where I read it. You find a publisher who prints your kinda stuff. This finding an agent and a publisher for my sci-fi/ fantasy is something I'm VERY interested in, seeing as I've been looking into it for years (and sending out with very little luck). I actually did the same thing with my romantic comedy, checked out who liked uh...maybe I shouldn't post that, oh, I'll do it, the shallow stuff (as opposed to um, deep).
Anyhoo, I'll just have to hit the bookstores and try it again with the sci-fi.
The only problem is I'm very unfamiliar with a lot of the sci-fi authors. To be perfectly honest, I read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy when I was a kid (loved Dragon Lance...I think it was the battle scenes and Tasselhof, though it took me forever to realize he wasn't just a teenage idol airhead--c'mon, I was in fifth grade and I started in the middle of the trilogy--I didn't get that concept either. When a particular someone died, my brother had to dry my tears and tell me there were more books and MAYBE, JUST MAYBE that particular someone didn't really die).
And now I just watch the sci-fi/ fantasy movies. Let's just say I stole my older brother's books and then when he left for college, I wasn't talented enough to find a good book on my own...and then I just read the assigned books in school from there. Perhaps admitting that is death, except that never really stopped my imagination or kept me away from my notebooks.
To make a long story short (or shall we say, I made it way longer than it needed to be), if anyone wants to take a look at my website (and like I said before, ignore that the background of the sci fi is in pink--one of my friends helping me out with it thinks he's hilarious...and he might have a point), it's www.stephaniefowers.com and if you want to look at the blurbs and tell me who writes a similar story, maybe I can look them up and figure out who's their agent (that's a hard one), but at least figure out their publisher and go from there. And if not, just take a look at it because it's fun. Let's just say I definitely have my favorites in there. And please ignore my blurbs for my romantic comedy (because you might think I'm serious AND I'm really just a jokester, but some people get so offended nowadays.)
I'll be checking out the bookstores. Thanks again and let me help you in any way I can too. My gmail account is posted on that site too, Steph

Okay, so I've published an LDS chick lit book called, 'Rules of Engagement.' It's a romantic comedy about the dating scene around here...BUT it was by far WAY easier to publish than it EVER was with my sci-fi. I can't tell you how many times I've been rejected with the sci fi. In fact, when I got the call from the publisher, I thought it was a joke! My friends have been known to prank me, but before I could say, 'Shut up' and hang up the phone, I decided to 'look stupid,' and play along. Luckily, I soon realized that it was the real thing. AMAZING! I can't tell you how many times I have tried to send my sci fi in with no results, yet the first publisher I sent my romantic comedy to, accepts it? It was ridiculous...yet really really nice for once.
So, I've been reading up on all the 'for dummy' books, and 'marketing strategy' books, and I thought, 'hey, since I've published something, maybe now I have a chance to get some of my sci-fi published.' No big fat chance! Is it a connections thing? Is it an agent thing? Is it an amazing query thing? Is it just pure dumb luck? Does anybody know here?
I actually started writing for a magazine to get some resume (but yeah, it's not sci-fi), and to be perfectly honest I wrote the romantic comedy for resume too (even though I really like that genre now and I'm totally going to do some more that direction), but without the know-how, I feel my sci-fi books are doomed to never see the light of day :'(
Anyhoo, maybe I just need some more input, especially from the sci-fi crowd. Some of my friends are completely clueless about that. If you want, check out my website. It's www.stephaniefowers.com AND I have the blurbs there. Maybe I just need to figure out what places to send it to?--I heard (and maybe I read it on this site) that you need to find out what publishing companies take your kind of books and go from there). And yeah, one of my friends helped me out with the website. Totally awesome of him, but he stuck everything in a pink background. Lol, what can I expect paying someone with just Taco Bell?--he probably was just trying to get his revenge on me. Anyhoo, if you can ignore that part, read the blurbs and give me your honest opinion on the books. That would be awesome! I seriously would appreciate it.

Hello, my name is Stephanie Fowers. No, I don't play whatever games you guys are talking about (I'm sorry, I'm technologically unadvanced where games are concerned, so I guess I'll be the peasant forever or whatever you want to call me), but I do love to write science-fiction. I've actually written a book called, 'Rules of Engagement.' It's an LDS chick lit book, and I really am fond of it. But I actually wrote it to get some resume, so I could get an agent and get my sci-fi published.  Although, now I have two favorite genres (it's funny how that happens).
Like a lot of you, I'm presently living in Provo, Utah. I graduated from BYU in English and Communications. I was going to go into advertising...until I decided to see where my writing would take me.  And now here I am, working as an assistant at an Elementary school helping out with the special ed, and writing another LDS chick lit book AND putting the finishing touches on my latest sci fi book, 'The Few (working title).' I'm also working on some screenplays (I have no idea where those will go) and I write for a magazine. Anyhoo, check out my website: www.stephaniefowers.com. I'm trying to get some science fiction writing advice (with agents and marketing and that kind of stuff, so I'm going to check out what you guys have to say). Some of the stuff that I've already read on this site is pretty interesting, so thanks for letting an interloper like me take a peek.  I need all the advice I can get.
