It occurs to me to wonder if they're called shardblades because they're made from shards of the Blades in the prologue.

I doubt that because Kelek specifically compares his blade to a Shardblade. He says that his blade is more pure, but in any case, it means that Shardblades were around when the Dawnshards were.

I forget where it say this, but somewhere it states that the value for the gems is based on Soulcasting properties. The part that gets me is one character (I think Shallan) thinks about how diamonds are one of lowest value gems due to their lack of use in Soulcasting. That just kind of stuck with me because it's the opposite of real life.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: The Ten Focus Characters of the 10 SA Books
« on: October 02, 2010, 07:21:47 PM »
I really hope that Kaladin doesn't get another book.  He's awesome, but the one book is enough.  I want as many people's backstories as possible!

Just tossing these out there: Shen or the Parshendi Shardbearer.  I'd love to get a Parsh perspective, I think it would be fascinating.

I also think it's more than likely that one book will go to a character from one of the interludes besides Szeth.  I really want to see more of Axies.

My guess is that Kaladin will be the focus of book 10. I kind of assume he'll be the champion that the Almighty mentions to Dalinar at the end of the book. Although, Brandon does have a way of killing my assumptions (**Spoiler Redacted**)

I'd also like to see some more of the interlude characters. I mean, Axies is pretty cool, and that lady who defaces all the artwork sounded interesting. Are they interesting enough to focus an entire book around? Hopefully.

As for the Parshendi shardbearer being a focus character... I only see Brandon doing that if the Parshendi end up being good guys. I mean, the Forsaken are all pretty cool in WoT, and their PoV chapters rock. A book focused around one of them wouldn't work though. So unless the Parshendi end up allying with the Alethi (and how that would ever happen, I have no idea), I see only PoV chapters for the Parshendi shardbearer and not a book focused on him.

So far, there have been a number of holes poked in the fire-arrow idea. Here's another. The Highstorms. Try leaving a piece of wood out in the rain and then try to light it on fire. Wet wood doesn't burn.

RAODEN'S TELEPORTATION
...
There is another important element to this teleportation. I thought it important to involve deity in the climax of what has been such an overtly religious book. You may not believe in God, and it is never my intention to belittle your choices. However, the format of this book has been one that dealt with religion and the way that people interact with their faith. And so, I took this last moment of the book, and gave Raoden an opportunity to call upon the aid of providence.

Raoden arrives safely, despite the odds against his having gotten the distance, direction, and other factors right. You are free to simply think of this as luck, if you wish.
Divine intervention? Or a shard on Sel not quite as dead as Odium/Rayse believes?

P.S. This quote comes from Brandon's annotations on chapter 62-2

Or what's left of Adonalsium is still floating around helping out.

Or a third cosmic actor.

Bet it was Hoid.

At several points in the book, the point is made that the Parshendi are not sophisticated warriors. Honorable, yes. Sophisticated, no. The answer you might be looking for is that they simply haven't thought to use fire in battle.

Well, Sazed has the power of Preservation as well, so I don't think he'll end up as ruinous as Ati did, but I don't think our favorite Terris Worldbringer will be the same if we ever see him again.

More from Mistborn, scraping a failing memory...

*The Lord-Ruler, but he was burning the essence of a deity at the time, so I'd say that counts as a Ruin/Preservation point.

*The Kandra prophecies.  Were these things the Lord Ruler told them upon creating them?  Or did they find the future another way?
Does the Lord-Ruler see the future, or just know whats happening, and thus makes a guess of the possible future?
The Kandra prophecies may come from Preservation, or maybe someone completely different. The Terris people always had a knack for prophecy.

I'm fairly certain that Brandon said somewhere that the Terris prophecies were from Preservation. They were supposed to be a manual-of-sorts to reinforcing Ruin's prison.

it would take a 2nd blow after death to draw blood with a shardblade

That's perfect. If she was using it for the first time, she wouldn't be accustomed to it's Golden Gun effect, so she'd probably have swung multiple times out of pure ignorance/hysteria. Now the only question would be how she got it. Maybe her father was beating up on Nan Balat and willed it to stay in plain sight to frighten the boy. So far, he sounds like the arrogant type who would do that.

It's also part of the joke that one or the other of Bela and Narg, maybe both, killed Asmodean.
Oh, it's been confirmed. Narg killed Asmodean. Brandon said so in his blog so it must be real.

Or you could burn it while at work for a minute and make hours go by. So many possible boring times you could just skip. Perhaps this is how Adam Sandler ruined his life in 'Click.' Of course, then Christopher Walken would be Sazed.

Wonder why Jasnah can't make a cymatic version of Urithiru...
Her speakers can't get up to the right range.  :)
She obviously needs an amp in the trunk of her 1173 Ford Fabrial.

One thing that's been itching at me: Szeth is the only person with a small shardblade.  Perhaps he's already completed his cycle, merged entirely with his spren (or something), and been granted his own shardblade instead of inheriting it.

I seem to remember one of Szeth's point-of-views stating that he was burdened with the Shardblade by his people, which made me interpret it was they made him take it.
