I'm glad you liked the story.

And yes, IGMS has bought another story of mine, "Accounting for Dragons," which will probably appear in issue 8.

In order to add someone as a buddy, you need to be logged in at the NaNoWriMo site and then go to the person profile page.  Because their servers seem to be inadequate, they've apparently disabled the function that lets you search for someone based on their username, so in order to add someone as a buddy, you pretty much need them to give you a link to their profile page, like this:

Yay!

A friend of mine was notified today that he's a finalist for third quarter.

50
The quarter ending September 30 is also the end of the 2007 contest year, which corresponds to WOTF XXIV, to be published next year.

The next quarter (deadline December 31) is the first quarter for the 2008 contest, which corresponds to the 25th volume in the series, and I know they're already planning to do some special things for the 25th anniversary.

Oh, and remember that the deadlines are postmark deadlines, so if the deadline falls on a Sunday or federal holiday, you may need to get it to the post officer a day earlier.

If anyone is interested in a list of 36 tips on entering WOTF, based on what K.D. Wentworth and Tim Powers said the two times I attended the workshop, PM me with your email address.

(I haven't publicly posted this list because I want to give a slight edge to writers I've had some interaction with.)

I think I like this one the best of the three.

Here's a link to the Locus review, which is positive overall:

I'm even more snooty than the folks who want their middle initial included.  Eric James Stone.

Amazon only charged me 49 cents.

As of right now, "Hope of Elantris" is #2 on the Amazon Shorts Bestseller list.  I guess that means you can bill yourself as a "bestselling author." ;)

Update: As of 4:25pm, you're
"#1 Bestselling Author Brandon Sanderson."

I will happily autograph a printout of the story.  IGMS does not prohibit printing out the story -- in fact, there should be a link in the left column to a printer-friendly version of the page.

Here's some of what Jason Sanford of storySouth had to say about "Tabloid Reporter to the Stars":
Quote
This wonderfully written science fiction story deftly pulls off laugh after laugh while also illuminating critical issues surrounding science, religion, culture, and, most importantly, what exactly is that thing we call truth.

I'm not saying that Chuck Norris is incapable of writing a story that would make someone laugh until they cough up blood.  I'm just saying there's no record of his having done so.

I am obviously no Chuck Norris.

But among all his legendary exploits, there is no record that Chuck Norris ever wrote a story that made someone laugh until they coughed up blood.

I'll put that story on my to-do list, Spriggan.  Right after "Count to infinity."
