Brandon actually had an interview wherein he talked about people's reactions to Mat.  It's always good to see what the other says about things like that... I can't remember who did the interview...  It was pretty recent though.

I'm just about done with Lord of Chaos myself, and of all the endings, I liked The Great Hunt's best.  It is Epic.  Prepare for a treat.

Well, whoever plays Reen also has to play Ruin pretending to be Reen, so... someone versatile I guess.  Depends on whether every time we hear Reen's voice it is actually Ruin (Which I think I remember hearing...it's not?)

Yeah, except that monkeys and apes are totally different.  Gorilla? Ape.  Monkey? Not an ape.

Did Hoid's Compendium turn into 17th Shard?  It calls itself official, and apparently Peter is helping out.  I remember Hoid's Compendium getting permission to be "Official."  I ask because I still have the compendium bookmarked, and if it's changed its name I want to know.

When I told him I had read it, he apologized to me because he thinks it poorly written.  I'm still looking forward to when he revisits it in the future.  Good story.

Thanks for posting that!  Everything new I hear about this book makes me more excited.

Yep, 10 book series.  As for Hoid speculation, I know for a fact that Hoid is in fact a viewpoint character.  Brandon told me so when he signed my Mistborn paperbacks at Life, The Universe, and Everything at BYU a few months ago.

He is mentioned by name in all the books except for Well of Ascension.

Is there reason he's not mentioned by name? Or was Brandon just not able to put fit it in?

Because Elend never bothers to ask his name. ;)

I can confirm the release party at the BYU bookstore the evening of the thirtieth.  I asked the nice people working there today.  There was some confusion about whether it would start at midnight or ten.  I'll want to show up several hours early anyway, so as to obtain a low number.  (I assume he's going to number these, yes Peter?)

" Brandon replied that while Hoid himself is not a shard, he is bonded to one" -- actually I recall public statements by Brandon that seem to deny this.

Fair enough.  You would know better than I would, certainly.

And since when is hoid immortal?

Brandon said Hoid was there when Adonalsium was Shattered. Also, it's been said that it takes a very long time for a person with a Shard (say, Ruin) is molded really well with its Purpose. I'd venture at least centuries, more likely millennia. For all practical purposes, he's immortal.

And, well Brandon said in...an interview?...a QandA session?...(I'm not great about citing sources, apparently) that Mistborn happened first, with Warbreaker and Elantris some centuries after that.  So, immortality after a fashion seems the only viable explanation.  Or time travel.

He also has an insoluble shirt.  He was wearing it when I met him.

@Peter
You also have an insoluble shirt.  You were wearing it when I met you.

Talking about someone who is an established participant in the conversation you're butting into is probably socially irresponsible. :P

Someone asked Brandon if Hoid were a shard, and Brandon replied that while Hoid himself is not a shard, he is bonded to one.  Whether he is bonded the same way Leras and Ati were bonded to Ruin and Preservation remains to be seen.  Also, this shard may or may not be the source of his planet hopping skills.  But really, given what little we know, can you think of anything else that could give him this skill, as well as some sort of immortality?
