Brandon Sanderson / Re: Who has read The Way of Kings (minor spoilers)

I'm pretty sure Szeth's dad is someone fairly important. After all, he freaks out when the person calls him Szeth-son-whoever. He says that he doesn't want to disrespect his father's name and would perfer to be called Szeth-son-son-Vallano.

How is that a stretch?  There's a lot of room for Shardblades to not be what we think they are.  Especially with Syl's only documented encounter with a Shardblade going the way it did.  I'm just proposing an idea that, to me, fits the information we have.

I wasn't disputing your theory so much as the statement that Szeth thinks his Blade is cursed. From where I'm sitting, that just isn't true.

WoK pg. 34

He left the King's shardblade; he had no use for it. The Blade Szeth already carried was curse enough.

So maybe the Blade isn't cursed, it's the fact that Szeth has to carry it that is the curse.

One thing that supports this is that he says "my blade is cursed enough" when he thinks about taking Gavilar's blade.

Edit- took out curiosity about Gavilar's plate and sword

My ideas for the nane...
Pizza: The final topping- The future of pizza making involves warp cores, death grips, and someone that reminds you of Sylar.

Kung Pow Pizza- Instead of the awesome sensei being a janitor, he makes pizzas! (Sauce on, meat on, sauce on, meat on)/A story of a small-time china restraunt that decides to go italian and has a hard time making it.

Pizzaborn- instead of metals, imagine pizza! And hawaiian is the equivalent to atium...

Pizza Never Lives Tomorrow Or Dies- A script for a movie about pizza employee #008, who is secretly a spy who uses his mad pizza skills to defeat bad guys with evil laughs (or at least sinister looks)!

Pizza Wars- A long time ago, in a restraunt far far away..... FOOD FIGHT! (taglines: Use the sauce Luigi/Luigi- I am your chef!!!/Search your toppings it is true)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Hoid's Shard abilities in WoK (minor spoilers)

Maybe he started out as a thought, a concept, and then he took the body of whoever it is in Dragonsteel. He uses the body to communicate, and the body's mind has fused with the concept's own. (Sort of like the relationship between shardholders and shards)

What do you guys expect of him? He wrote both the beginning and the end of an epic series, a young adult novel, and now he's writing a book for fun!  ;)

Maybe Keseg/Unity split (sort of like Sazed put two of them together) into the Aona-shard and the Skaze-shard. Or maybe the Jindo man knew about Adonalsium (or had a sliver of knowledge about him), and was trying to show this to people. Or maybe the Jindo was Hoid.

I wonder... Peter, what is the present plan for foreign languages for the Navani pages? Will they be in Roshar-English, or will they be in Roshar-French (or whatever the language is)?

Scholastic turned down Alcatraz 5 (if I remember right), which means that he can have someone else publish it. He said that he would probably write Nightblood like he did Warbreaker, where he writes some chapters, post them online, and continue (Which will be a mess now that he's so popular).

My money is on a completely new novel (unlikely), Elantris 2, or, probably, a short story or two. I've really enjoyed his sci-fi short stories in the past, and look forward to more of them.

Mistborn spoiler!

Secondly, I reckon that Szeths surgebinding comes from a type of fabriel created by the stone shamans. The spren is imprissoned in the oathstone and that is why Szeth is very connected to this stone.

I like that idea. It may not be right, but it would be pretty cool. There is ten books worth of magical surprises left. After all, if anyone told you at the end of Mistborn that Sazed was going to be a god, you would think they were crazy!

Brandon Sanderson / Re: I'm confused with Adonalsium. Can anyone help me?
« on: September 27, 2010, 05:30:38 AM »
Here there be Hero of Ages spoilers...

1) We started figuring out from what Brandon said about Ruin and Preservation in the ancient and forever long HoA Q&A. That's when we started putting the pieces together, hunting for Hoid, etc.
2) A long long time ago, Adonalsium shattered. Hoid was there. Adonalsium shattered into (probably) 16 shards, each with seperate names and focuses of personality (Ruin, Preservation, Odium(aka Hate), Endowment, Cultivation). These shards were likely given to people that were around that the writer of the headers in section two knew(writer is likely Hoid). The shards are now on seperate planets, with some having two (Scadriel, with Ruin and Preservation), some have one (Endowment on Warbreaker world), and some have three (Roshar).

Hoid seems to be a name that appears in each of the world, usually in a job that requires a quick tongue. Pretty much what we look for when we look for Hoid is what is in the first set of Interludes. Beard, quick tongue, white hair, arrowed face, etc. He was a bggar in Elantris, an informant and leader of Terris refugees in Mistborn, and a storyteller in Warbreaker.

3)Known shards- Okay, so each shard has the name of the shard, and the name of the Shardholder, the person who took upon the power assumably like Sazed did. Ruin (Ati), Preservation (Leras), Endowment (?), Odium (Rayse), ? (Aona), ? (Skai), ? (B... something. I don't remember the other one that the epigraph writer said), ? (Cultivation), Almighty.

Pretty much their 'powers' are what the shard molds the minds of the humans into. For example, Ati was originally a nice guy, but he became a jerk after thousands of years as Ruin.

Hope that answers your questions!

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Language of Dalinar's gibberish?
« on: September 21, 2010, 07:21:06 AM »
Maybe the language is the one that Rock speaks. He speaks a few lines of it when startled. Maybe that's the Dawnchant. (unlikely, but still...)

Except for one thing- The Parshendi aren't of Hate (Which is what Odium means). They seem to have deep respect for their dead and for those in battle. When they are fighting Kaladin, they focus on the more experienced people rather than the weakest, which is what an Alethi would be more likely to do.
