Brandon Sanderson / Re: WOT Help
« on: November 20, 2009, 07:05:08 AM »
They have been told. They do not yet believe it. It's going to take a while for true knowledge to spread. I'm not sure that even Egwene believes, yet.

As for LTT vs. Rand, Rand may be TDR, but he is not the Dragon, and LTT is ancient history. Rand is not currently in any mental condition to lead a reunified male and female AS. Even if he were (which he isn't, though Veins of Gold made progress in the right direction) I think he would pretty much have to destroy the WT to take control of it ... which is not something I would really consider to be a good thing.

Unless you believe the best thing is to completely destroy the WT, turn all the AS into OP-wielding refugees, and then try to start from scratch. I doubt Rand would want to be the AS, even if he could.

(Though it would be nice if the AS could remember they are supposed to serve, not to rule.)

First, even if most of the BT bondings are forced, the WT has a right to be upset. (Yeah, yeah, I know the bonded sisters were sent to destroy the BT, but still ....)

Forced bonding doesn't sound like the kind of thing that should be done except in the direst of circumstances. (I'll accept in in Birgitte's case, because it was to save her very existence.)

Remember, even now, most AS don't know the OS is clean. Now, they are going to have to learn to deal with men channeling again, but until the source was cleaned, it was completely understandable that they didn't like men that channeled.

(Though to be honest, I think it is time for the Red Ajah to be disbanded ... they no longer serve an acceptable purpose. Time for those sisters to think of which other Ajah they would feel most comfortable in.)

But as to Rand being the rightful AS, I do not see it. Explain, please.

Note ... I agree Egwene is a little full of herself ....

But let's not forget, AS bonding men is, for the most part, voluntary.

The BT bonding AS (not just women, but AS) were forced bondings. I can understand being angry about that.

Darxmeat, that is an interesting theory. I can see the time spent with Mordeth being involved in the changes in Elaida. It would go a long way to explain her change from slightly obnoxious to absurdly controlling and egotistical. And yet, I have to wonder, could Mordeth have such a strong influence with the relatively short time he spent interacting with her? Or would he have had to keep interacting with her?

Either way, it is an interesting theory to think on.

Well, then I'm sure somebody will be along soon to drag me kicking and screaming to the right board.

Better get on my kicking and screaming garb.

Guess I made a bit of a mistake posting this in the first place, and those who might have wanted to read it would have had a chance to, anyway, so this has now been removed.

I know how that goes.

I can write some nice scenes and dialog, I can word things well, but when it comes to actual plotting, not so much.

Instead, I get so far into a story, and then no longer know how to get to a conclusion.

I manage to avoid that problem with the short stories, though.

I'll post my story in it's own thread, and wait to see if it gets any comments, or possibly gets deleted for not being appropriate for the forum.

Just reread it tonight, and still found it funny, though perhaps a little bit rough.

You know, Ari, that sounds pretty interesting! It will be cool to see where that goes!

Like many of the others around here, I am also a writer, but unlike Brandon and all the others around here, I am nowhere near being ready to write any massive, involved fantasy books. Unfortunately, at this point almost all of my writing is in the form of short fiction. And writing short fiction, I don't really end up with in-depth magic systems.

If there is any magic, it is a minor side-point, and not something that you learn anything about how the magic works.

Instead, my short stories are usually a fantasy treatment of a non-fantasy setting. For example, I was working in a cellular provider call center for a few weeks, and really hated a lot of the stupid things they had us do, as a part of the job. I wrote up a humorous story about somebody working in a wizard's supply company off of the situation.

It's a short story, only three or four pages, and I enjoyed writing it quite a bit.

Would be glad to post it here, if anybody else would like to see it.

Personally, I think Egwene has done a wonderful job -within- the White Tower, and I agree with most of her actions and statements. I think almost every choice she has made for the White Tower as a whole has been a good and positive thing.

I think, suspect, and hope that she has ensured that she will have a tower that will have a hard time crossing her as an organization, because of how much they needed her, and what she has already provided. Yet I also think and hope that the situations leading to her being placed in power will mean that the tower will be a little more outspoken if they disagree with her. I'm hoping for more honest, and less hidden and scheming. Not that the AS will not always be scheming ....

My problems are all going to be in regards to the WT and the rest of the world. Here's hoping that she remembers that she, herself, made the point that ruling the AS was not supposed to be nothing more than might makes right.

I just hope I'm not seriously annoying him.

I just like messing around, and misinterpreting things.

Fun place, and Brandon's writing is a fun backdrop on which to do it.

26
Does that mean I'm number one at annoying you?

Wooowhoooo!!!!

I rox!

(Am I the only one who thinks that sounds like an iPod dedicated only to heavy metal?)

27
Why am I still reading this thread?  Better yet, why am I posting in it...

To annoy Kaz?

I'm fairly new here, but I think I'm already doing a pretty good job of annoying him.

Not as good as the person mixing Star Wars in, but still ....

Did somebody ask for the Department of Redundancy Department?

My book has RJ's signature in it too ... I think it is some kind of Boskone plot!

The Lensmen aren't going to like this!

It's a big book, and I couldn't read through the entire thing again, quite yet, but today I sat down and read the entire White Tower storyline, plus Veins of Gold.

I still love the way the whole White Tower storyline was written, and while I still fear Egwene will want to have too much control over Rand, I am a lot more open to her White Tower than to Elaida's.

But the part that got me thinking was reading for a second time the closing bits from the prophecy after Rand's time atop Dragon Mount.

Something along the lines of "And the one who was blinded shall see again, standing on his grave.""

Looks like we may not have to expect to see Rand lose his eyes ... it sure sounds like that might be metaphorical, and just came to pass. Other thoughts?

Am i the only person on this forum who has developed a "magic system" based on mind over matter which in turn utilizes genetics (including mitochondrial DNA which is constantly mutating), ki breathing techniques, and a bizarre interaction with a bacteria that was transplanted to earth by a comet? Ok good.

Nope ... you aren't the only one.

Though I chose to use a Kestrallian philagree to vorticise the DNA for the intrinsic quantum flux, thereby creating the subserviant race of Ninja Assassin jellyfish. Am still trying to figure out the controlling matrix for that one ... may take me a while.

Nah ... just kidding. You are the only one.
