Brandon Sanderson / Re: WOK Spoilers: Parshmen

I imagine the parshendi/parshmen collective is/are the foot soldiers referenced in the introduction.

well i finished it and was glad to know i was correct n all counts. The book was fantastic. can't wait for more.

!st of all i have been taking this book slow so most of the read-a-book-a-day fans might know all of this but i have come to conclusions and i want to post them as thinkof them rather than after they are confirmed/ denied. Again there may be spoilers so RAOR (read at own risk).

1st. Kaladin is using the stormlight in in his spheres for something. I realized this as he was beaten after the bridge run. All his sphears are becoming dun because he uses the stormlight. Its not lashing but a large part of the magic system is still not explained.

2nd I believe Wit is Hoid. Attention has been given him and it is an auxillary role akin to others he has filled.

3rd and a bit more obvious, shallan has a shardblade. I'm not sure how she got it, but she has one.

I am loving the book so far, and i will throw more stuff up as i think of it. feel free to comment and let the thread rabbit trail but untill i finish the book i will be posting other suspicions on this thread without reading other post because i don't want to use others theories as a crutch untill i have finished WOK. Man thsi is engaging.

i hope this thread isn't errorgant.

I personally don't think Hoid is a Shard.  He does clearly have epic powers, though.

I seem to recall that hoid is bonded to a shard.

In term of the polini debate, c.p. did write decent cliche fantasy. I have read and greatly enjoyed his books. Sanderson is my favorite author and he is much more talented than polini but that does not detract from polini's young accomplishments. I think people should not  bash his desire to finish his breakout series without others influence. No one on this forum has made an accomplishment like his and therefor do not have the situational knowledge polini did when deciding to turn down classes.

The fourth book will be released. Polini has stated that he will make the dragon seeries into 4 books. He takes too long to publish but not all can be sandersons.

Also phaz, what is the name of wind

I haven't seen airbender yet, but feel compelled too. I'm also dreading it. WHY???!!!

Just watch the first season while pretending it is live action. You will walk away much more satisfied.

So i have been watching the show sanctuary and there is an abundance of characters that could be in mistborn.

Christopher Heyerdahl as sazed

Peter Wingfield as Docks (or somebody)

Robin Dunne as Elend

Thoughts?

Quote
Pssht. Oprah as Tindwyl.

I agree.

On a more serious note, who to play Spook, esepecially if they do a trilogy.  They need someone who is able to show all that development, probably some one who will actually grow up during the filming.
That's the nice thing about having a year between each book, and each book being a year long, if they do all three, they probably won't have to worry about actors ageing out.

(hard to type using itouch)

I had thought it would be fun to audition for this one. I am old now but Hollywood tends to overlook a couple years. I seemed to remember
Spook being ektomorphic and about 6'3. Not like it will happen but a man can dream. As long as no people from twilight(ruin) get the part
of Spook I'll be happy. I had thought about auditioning for the part of sokka in airbender and then twilight people got it and I wanted to yell. Movie still has me pumped though. Anyway when I can I'll post a headshot to compare with Spook.

for TLR, i honestly would think that someone large, and imposing would make a good choice. Which is why i think vin diesel would be a great TLR. He's big, imposing, can easily look the part of evil, and a relatively good actor.
I always thought of the Lord Ruler as leaner as well, albeit well muscled. and remember, he's supposed to look surprisingly young. I had this problem in the books, I kept picturing a man in his thirties, but if you have access to eternal youth, why be thirty when you can be twenty one?

If i remember he was young. He was also well cut and during the execution at the square scene i seem to recall him being a slim guy. He has so much power that physical prowess is not necessary. Also he is not to look evil so much as strained and tyranical.

looking a bit older than early twenties coud help re-inforce a godly image. He looks in his prime but not young.

I really like that one a lot, but I always mentally associate Preservation with the color white. Mist-Vin is a bit too dark in my opinion.

Actually that passage reads that Vin was white above Elend but Ruin was Dark in the area. He might be dipicting that. The one factuall error i see is that no Inquisitors (with the exception of Marsh) were there during the fight. However, givin the epic of the painting i think we can let that slide.

lol! Yah, I was painting based purely on my emotional reaction to the scene, and from memory, so some accuracies did slide.

Thanks for compliments guys.

This is the background for my laptop now. i really like it. It is my favorite piece that i have seen to date.

Mine as well. It's too pretty to not look at every time I see my desktop.

I kinda want to get it put on one of those big canvasy things and get it hung in my living room.

That is a fantastic idea. I wants one. (also super long quote thread)

i love Firefly as much as the next scifi fanboy, but really, Nathan Fillion and Summer Glau are not right for every part! LOL

However: Sean Maher (aka Dr. Simon Tam) is Kelsier in my opinion (not the Lord ruler): http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0536883/

Miranda Cosgrove could be a good Vin once her hair was chopped. (yes, she is iCarly and was the little sister on Drake and Josh) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1388927/

Lord Ruler, imho, could be none other than James Callis: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0130536/

I dissagree with your Vin and the good docter could be kelsier (there are better choices.) However, you hit the nail on the head with TLR. I should have thought of that. Baltar is so fun to hate that he has to be the antagonist.

Iam going out on a limb, and I think it is way too early to say, but I think that Dallet is Hoid. Just something about him smiling against all odds, it just seems like him.

Then again, Dallet is a warrior, which we haven't seen Hoid being yet.

EDIT- and Cenn as Ruin. (He is the red-haired shard from HoA, right?)

EDIT EDIT-
Never mind. I was writing as I was reading, and am displeased to learn that Kaladin thinks Dallet and Cenn are dead.

gunna have to dissagree on the dallet part. Hoid is a small charecter with a key task in each book so far.

Cenn does not have red hair. The man to his side did.

"The soldier on the other side of Cenn nodded. He was a lanky, redhaired Veden, with darker tan skin than the Alethi. Why was he fighting in an Alethi army? “That’s right. Kaladin, he’s stormblessed, right sure he is. We only lost . . . what, one man last battle?”

I love firefly a lot but i will be honest. Most of the main stars from the show have been thrown out as possible roles for Brandon's charecters and i so not think they are good choices. I hoe that most of the actors are new or really commited to the project.

That being said i do have favorite actors and i think that David Hewlett would be a good Breeze.
Ellen page is the first person mentioned that even begins to fill the role in my mind. Not that i see her as a prime candidate but she is a good idea.

i had origionally seen kelsier as christian bale but now i am unsure.

William Dafoe should be somewhere in all this.

There is one firefly charecter i could see fitting a role here.

http://firefly.wikia.com/wiki/Simon_Tam

could be the lord ruler.
