Everything Else / Re: Pointless Armor: Now Available In Dude.
« on: August 21, 2010, 03:57:17 PM »
Holy crap! Archon's back!

Maybe the point of the armor is distraction. If that is the case, it is doing its job. Not that I've been distracted from my work by a picture of a mostly naked man, I swear.

Wow. So far, 5/6 voters have decided to go Spaceward. One of whom also decided to go Coreward.
...the direction of Motorcycle.
An excellent name for an excellent vector.
In fact, going from utah to baltimore, you're likely to drive pretty much right through my area.
Unfortunately, I'm so poor that flying is my only option (Technically, going by Greyhound is actually cheaper until you realize that you have to pay for an extra two days of preprepared food in transit. Also, holy crap 2 days and 8 hours of travel time from Vegas to Baltimore. Thank you, 9-hour transcontinental flights.). I'm selling most of my stuff and stuffing what I really want/need in two 20x20x20 inch boxes and a carry on. I'm going to try to sneak my monitor/TV and desktop HDDs on as a laptop, since laptop bags don't affect the bag count for most airlines. If this were twitter, I'd add a hash tag about how being a powergamer helps other aspects of life more than it does gaming. Because in gaming, powergaming is boring. In real life, powergaming is awesome mad wicked skills. #ButWeArentOnTwitter #OrAreWe
Well, I have never liked the East Coast, so definitely I'd go west. And north, too, because I love the Pacific Northwest.
The east coast is nice and has all of the old stuff, but the west coast does have climate on its side. Then again, there's always the seismic activity on the west coast to put a damper on things. The hurricanes rarely reach as far north as Baltimore.

I agree. Yay, Eero! That guy is so sexy! Go him!
I don't know if Eeroticism and self-promotion are allowed on this forum. Also, Is Eero your preferred nick? If so, I can change my ways from the super-lazy Ee.

Site News / Relocation: Choose a Direction
« on: August 18, 2010, 07:47:42 PM »
I'm defying Horace Greeley's advice and heading in a mostly anti-westerly direction, leaving Utah to (hopefully) never return. I'm moving to a city just outside Baltimore, Maryland the second week of September! It will be the fifth move for me within 10 months (woo, house sitting). I'll be in Baltimore until Decemberish (possibly later). Does anybody here live on the East coast? If so, we should boogie.

Anyway, why start a topic when you can start a topic and a poll? Polls should be required for all new topics. Because polls are awesome. You can choose three directions to be most specific! Are you moving? If so, where are you headed?

Chaos, while I disagree with you, the way you say things somehow makes whatever you say seem like the only thing that makes sense. Maybe that's the slave protocols you installed back when you made me your puppet talking though.

Restaurants have been around quite a while. Certainly longer than firearms, which were invented but suppressed by TLR. Then again, the progression for different societies is often radically different. Maybe in a world where some people can make high speed projectiles out of coins, creating a similar ability for the normals would take precedence over fine dining establishments. The commoners in Mistborn certainly had public dining, but that was more of a mess hall than a restaurant.

I don't know, I was just thinking that the societies themselves in Warbreaker seemed more advanced, again I have no real reason or idea why... Thats just how I felt haha.  It does make sense the way you said it though.
You may have been noticing the nods Brandon was giving to Victorian-era England (esp. Oscar Wilde). I also remember some feminism, which is a rather recent development in our world. The societies Brandon creates may be purposely (I hope) anachronistic to remind us that the worlds we (Hoid ;)) are visiting are very different from the one we live in. I may be wrong! I'm improvising!

Huh. I didn't know that they archived images as well there.

I sure hope somebody archived all of the art and reviews. It would be a crime against humanity on Amazon's part if they were lost forever.

I guess there is no specific chronology for Warbreaker?  I always imagined that it was the most "futuristic" of the 3 societies, but I'm not really sure why.
I'm pretty sure that as far as science goes, that would be Mistborn. The magic in Warbreaker is, however, used in more everyday applications than in Mistborn, where the magic is almost always used in warfare.

Plus, c'mon. An article on threequels when it's episode three? I couldn't pass that up.
True enough. Besides, it's still a good article.

Maths work too. I can handle maths instead of science. What I like most about your other articles is the contrast to the overly vague and mystical crowd of writing analyzers and advicers. What they give is magic. What you give is love and magic married. Love+Magic. Logic. The best kind of magic, though it's arguable if it's the best kind of love.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn Movie-Casting?

I think that if she has any sort of acting chops, she would be able to pull off Vin. I haven't seen any of her work besides Lie to Me, she doesn't look like the Vin in my head, and her mannerisms don't seem like they would fit the part well, but I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that she could do a good Vin. Whether or not she would is another matter.

Skin seems like it would make sense. Or are you talking about including hair and nails? If it's only skin, it would be funny, but at least you could have an air hole for better breathing through the mouth since it wouldn't be a threat. ;D

McFarland could do well, and she is fantastic on Lie to Me.

However much I love Joss Whedon and his posse, I don't think they could do Mistborn justice. They could nail Warbreaker though (IYKWIM, AITYD).

Got a typo there in the last sentence, but it's a nice article. I don't see the science I loved so much in the previous articles, and hope to see them return in CT4. :)

Ee, if you repost that in this thread in three years, you'll probably get in trouble for necromancy, but it'll totally be worth it. >.> <.<
