What I learned from all this is not to be afraid of drafts.  I usually feel that my story needs to be near perfect the first time out, but now I realize that it's a first draft.  Go ahead and info dump.  go ahead and go on tangents.  go ahead and get the main character (and all the side character's) names wrong.  Don't worry, because it's a first draft.

Something too transparent the first time? move it farther down, or hint.  Beginning taking too long?  Cut.  oh for the love of sanity, cut.  But realize that the first draft is there to get the story on paper, like a lump of clay.  The other drafts are to make that book the best it possibly can be.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Best Mistborn Fight Scene *SPOILERS*

...she broke the cloud barrier and flattened Kredik Shaw (freaking Kredik Shaw!) along with blasting inquisitors out of the air with their spikes.  Mist Vin wins.

I wonder if that's what it would be like to burn duralamin but not have the metals dissapear.  only it's god duralamin.

I'm at 4072, doing 2000 a day and getting a couple of days off.  It's not all that hard, so long as you have a good plan and don't care about stupidity.  Heck, I'm still developing my main char's personality as I write it, so when I revise there will be good prose had by all.

I have my Nanowrimo all plotted and waiting for actual writing.  I have another project that I'm working on as part of a class as well.  It's a YA, and I actually don't have writer's block on it because I started on the third chapter rather than the first.  Yay!  ;D

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Hero of Ages hits Bestseller List!

Finally, an author that I actually want to read is on the List!  The other ones are good, but Brandon's stuff didn't need to be on the list to be good.

I'd really like the action podcast, along with the language one.  Although it would be nice if they did a podcast on how to put a convincing romance, or even just understanding women as characters.  that'd be kinda funny too  ;)

Got any ideas?  is your story drama?  fantasy? action? humor? A dramatically humorous action-fantasy?

I gots me an epic fantasy planned.  I have the four main POV characters planned out, along with the major plot points with their stories, as well as the magic system all done.  The important worldbuilding is done, but I need to put more potential twists in it, along with finalize names.  oh well.

I like my world.  all of the mountains and stuff are actually the skeletons of gigantic extinct animals called Colossi, who figure a lot in the religion of the area.  The imperial city-state capital, in all of it's size, can't completely fill a Colossus' ribcage, even with its suburbs and shantytowns.  The colossi also figure into the magic, but only in a minor role.

I like my magic too. To my knowledge, it's not very close to any magic system I've read.  Although there's one that has similar principles to it.

It was sold out at my B&N, so I'm getting it on friday.  I saw one of my english teachers there, looking for HoA too.  We agreed that if it was in stock, we'd fight for it.  It wasnt.

...I'm not sure I wouldve won.

Dan Wells / Re: Blacker Darkness (Dan's vampire humor novel)

I love it, but then I've always been a fan of just random humor.  I especially like how the vampires act in the first chapter or so.  I kinda imagine them as monty python-ish, with the vampires talking excitedly to each other while following everything he does and giving little comments and compliments.

I personally love Miazakis.  Spirited Away was one of the best animes ever.  Also, I liked Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann quite a bit (its by the guy who made FLCL and it has giant robots made of faces).

Have you ever heard of the Chevalier D'eon?  It's a horror anime, so it's pretty bloody in some places, but all in all it's cool and creepy.
