Brandon Sanderson / Another WoT ReRead
« on: August 22, 2011, 06:00:28 PM »
I know there are a billion of these out there, but hey what's another one to add to the pile? The author (not me) is very interested in having some discussions on her thoughts/recaps of the re-read. She's going chapter by chapter and getting pretty specific on each one.

Check it out if you're interested.

A couple things

The exposure of the most significant Tower witch, besides Egwene herself (not telling who for those who haven't read yet), as a darkfriend read like the script of an episode of LAw and Order

Not sure who you're calling the "most significant tower witch" but if it's who I think it is there was never any mention of her actually being a DF

If Brandon can ask Ludlum about psychological thrillers than I'll be VERY impressed, as he is VERY deceased. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Ludlum)

...instead it read like an really bad tantrum, and the narrator was as bored and unfocused as the reader.
This is an opinion stated as fact, I for one was not bored and unfocused.

There are some areas that could use a little work, I wasn't a big fan of the opening chapter, but was not completely turned off by it. I loved the Prologue, and felt there were a few people who were a little 'off' (mainly Mat and Tomanes). These did not ruin my enjoyment.

Remember Brandon sat down to write each POV from where they were to the beginning of the last battle. There is bound to be some continutity/timeline confusion when doing this. I'm sure ToM will help get us on the same page to gear up for the last battle.

Brandon has the foremost living experts on the WoT helping him complete the series. While the voice is most certainly different (it should be, he's not RJ. That is not a knock, I would say the same if RJ were alive and finishing up Mistborn for Brandon) if it read like a Bourne book I would feel very cheated (I LOVED the original Bourne books)

I would certainly vote yes!

Hey JoeC!

Like you I loved TGS.

Egwene parts were good and I'm glad that the tower divide is finally resolved.

Rand getting his crap straight at the end was great and I loved viritually all of his parts, both up and down.

The minor parts with Mat & Perrin were ok, tho I did find Mat a little bit off.

Verin = Awesome

I really enjoyed the book and can't wait to get to ToM; Glad you enjoyed too, Look forward to further input on the books.

Say did you ever get around to reading A New Spring? The small lull between now and ToM would be a good time to review that. There is some really cool information in that one that is fun to read about :-)

So let me make sure I have this right.

Chuck Norris signed Robert Jordan's copy of Star Wars with Kaz's pen?

Peter Gabriel's Passion, it is the score for the last temptation of christ. Completely instrumental.

On Oprah the Lady Faile Bashere 't' Ayabra will teach you how to manage your man through lies, deciet, and freaking out over absolutely every little thing possible.

I agree with everyone else, completely lost, but if you want to give it a go....

That will get you up to Lord of Chaos before Gathering Storm comes out, but you'll still have a few missing books. The WOT Help topic in this forum has some nice recaps by JoeC that might help you get the gist of it. Would still recommend reading the whole story.

Now you want an interesting question ... there are 100 companions, and I seem to recall from somewhere that there are 100 bound to the horn. Coincidence, or are they supposed to be the same 100? I got the impression that the 100 companions were males wielding the One Power, and I got the impression that many of those bound to the Wheel do not wield the OP. I think we can be fairly sure Artur Hawkwing doesn't use the OP, and it sure didn't sound like Gaiden Cain or Brigitta did. (You'll have to pardon me on some of these names.)

You're impression is correct, most heroes bound to wheel cannot channel. (FYI there were actually 113 companions, however, Lews Therin and his 113 companions just doesn't have the same ring ;-))

I understand some Wheel of Time fans are to literature what console fanboys are to video games, but I've been as polite as possible in the matter--I would appreciate if you did the same, regardless of differing opinions. I'm not attacking you for your love of a book I find dull, am I? I fail to see how you could find that 'Offensive' unless you'd been the author yourself.

I'm not sure how many different ways I should be offended here. I am a fan of both WOT and Console video game systems. Your comments seem to be disparaging and attack anyone who doesn't agree with you as somehow being less than you. I believe that is what other people's overall objections to your comments has been.
