Everything Else / What kind of dog is this?
« on: February 20, 2009, 03:05:47 AM »
So in recent we found a stray puppy. We've been taking care of him for about a week now, and we've taken him to the vet a couple times. 3 different vets gave us three different answers, so we aren't sure what he is, so I just wanted to get some other opinions of what people think he is! Thanks, all! :D

Video link of dog (should be able to play in internet explorer, .flv format)

Movies and TV / Coraline - Digital 3D
« on: February 17, 2009, 10:55:19 PM »
so the other night, I went and saw Coraline in digital 3D. I have to say, I was very impressed with digital 3D! For the first 10-15 minutes or so, my eyes kinda felt strained from the adjustment of the glasses (which fit OVER my glasses, by the way, so I could wear them both at once, don't know if this affected it) but after my eyes got used to it, it was no big deal. This was the first movie *I'd* ever watched in D-3D, but combined with the movie's style and imagery, made it a very unique cinematic experience. Anyone else watch any actual D-3D movies, this or others?

Also, The whole time watching the movie, I couldn't shake the thought of how awesome it would be for gaming.

Everything Else / Barak Obama's Stimulus package
« on: January 23, 2009, 09:02:11 PM »
I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts about Obama's stimulus package to help revitalize the economy are. For those who don't know, among the things that will be done:

* Provide an immediate $250 tax cut for workers and their families.
* Provide an immediate, temporary $250 bonus to seniors in their Social Security checks.
* Provide an additional $250 tax cut to workers and an additional $250 to seniors if the economy continues to worsen
* Provide relief to homeowners hit by the housing crisis.
* Provide aid to states hardest-hit by the housing crisis to avoid a slash in services.
* Extend and expand Unemployment Insurance.

So what does everyone think? Good idea? Bad idea? Just what we need?

as far as the tax cuts go, apparently you can either claim it on tax returns (i.e. get 250 more back on tax returns/less on audits) or take it on your regular paycheck (~20ish more dollars a month)

Webcomics & Free Stuff / 8 bit theatre.....the end?
« on: December 11, 2008, 07:59:31 PM »
Anyone else here read 8-bit theatre and read today's comic?

If so, who thinks it's really the end, and who thinks it's a joke?
On one hand, it's not out of character for Brian Clevenger to make fake endings (as he's done before), however, on the other hand it wouldn't be totally out of character to actually END it like that. Either way, we'll certainly find out on Saturday or Tuesday (depending on if he runs the joke through Saturday if it is a joke.)

Video Games / Left 4 Dead
« on: November 21, 2008, 03:16:02 PM »
I got this game recentley after playing the demo for a couple weeks. Anyone else play it? This game is incredibly sweet. It's basically a zombie apocalypse, with runner zombies like from 28 days/weeks later. The game focuses on cooperative gameplay, there's always 4 survivors (even if some have to be NPCs) and there are various things you have to do that involve teamwork. I recommend getting it for PC as it is an FPS, but it's also on the 360.

The FCC recentley gave the OK for a certain band of the wireless spectrum (2155-MHz to 2180-MHz) to be set aside to be for use for free services. Such services would cover things like wireless internet or cell phone service. If this goes through, as early as next year in june, we could see them auctioning off these frequencies to use by companies/organizations that plan to offer free services using these bands. (i'll bet google will jump on this bandwagon, somehow) This is part of the FCC's approach to having broadband available nationwide. However, they are currently meeting resistance from cell phone companies such as T-Mobile, claiming that it will interfere with their services.

Despite the fact that MM 9 is going to be a download game for the wii/360/ps3, the team made some mock up box art, complete with an NES cartridge. They've been sending them to certain press reviewers and such, and are considering selling a limited quantity to the general public.  :o

Brandon Sanderson / I have to say, I'm impressed.
« on: September 03, 2008, 07:28:14 PM »
Greetings,

Obviously, this is my first post and I'm new around here, but not the point of this thread. I recentley starting reading Mr. Sanderson's mistborn series, because as a long time fan of the wheel of time series, I figured I should give myself a chance to get to know the author's style before the new book comes out. At first, I was hesitant of the idea, but I would have been in general anyway, no matter who was chosen. Obviously, I don't expect Sanderson's work to be the same as Jordan's, that would just be asinine, so I picked up the first of the mistborn series, and begun to read it. And I have to say, I'm impressed with what I've read so far. The setting is unique enough without being totally bizzare and out of the ordinary, and the story is compelling enough to keep you hooked. And while I'm certain the final WoT book will not be the same book that would have been penned by Mr. Jordan himself, I feel that Mr. Sanderson will do very well for the task at hand, and will do the series justice. I don't know if he reads these forums personally, but I just wanted to voice my opinion, as I like to give credit where credit is due, and just to say that you have certainly made a fan out of me.

Thanks for reading my rant of praise!
