Brandon Sanderson / Re: questions about brandon
« on: January 22, 2010, 04:51:18 AM »
Yeah, Steven Erikson is good. Be warned though, his world is HUGE. Tons of tribes, lots of different magic, many different continents (and realms and dimensions, etc). The first half of any book is usually very confusing to get through because of all the new characters and armies, and then the second half is one big thrill ride.

His books are called the Malazan Book of the Fallen. Book one is Gardens of the Moon: http://www.amazon.com/Gardens-Moon-Malazan-Book-Fallen/dp/0765310015. Books 2 and 3 are some of the best I've ever read. So far the others range from pretty good to good, though I haven't read them all.

Holy cow that's a bad cover. I mean, I didn't like the Warbreaker book cover, even though I recognize that it is a good one, but that one is bad.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Most people say Kelsier wrong

Nope. Most people on Scadriel say Kelsier's name wrong. I'm right.

Scadriel was the name of the Mistborn world/continent right? I'm almost positive it's the name of a Sanderson world, and somewhat sure it's the Mistborn one.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Hoid Compendium :: Spoilers

I've seen speculation that Hoid stands for Hero Of Infinite Dimensions. Is there any basis to that or is that a coincidental acronym?

Hmm, I don't think Min was avoiding Rand because she was afraid of him or scared of him, but she finally realized that her presence near him puts him in big danger. She's not a last line of defense with her knives, she's a liability. It's surprising she didn't start realizing this after the Semirhage incident in KoD, where she ended up costing Rand his hand, but she realized in tGS that Rands enemies can use her to hurt him. She was re-thinking her role in Rand's life, not really avoiding him.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn Movie

I wouldn't mind seeing just the first book made into a movie. They could leave it at that, it's a good end point, or, if it's hugely successful, they could try and make the second and third. But I don't want to see the second and third done with a low budget. I think the first one could pull it off with a modest budget. Less so for the others.

Yeah actually. The Sufferer and the Witness & Siren Song of the Counter Culture, both by Rise Against. A few of the songs could apply I guess (Drones in particular, but plenty of songs about rising up/protesting/rebelling), but mainly it's just because I heard the Cds around the same time I was reading Mistborn.

I think it's one of the reasons I enjoy the albums so much. It takes me back to when I was first reading Mistborn.

Ookla: So there is a sequel for sure/in the works? I hadn't heard that. Is there any kind of a timeframe for that? Any other books planned in the Warbreaker world? My cousin wants a prequel.  ;D

Zas678: Yeah, my pet theory was that Clod was Arsteel too. And you make a good point, his uniqueness could be the fact that he's a Returned Lifeless.

And what about Clod? Was the 'look of determination' on his face from when he saved Vivenna ever explained?

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Official Release of AMoL in Denmark
« on: March 03, 2009, 06:31:14 PM »
That's interesting. TOR has Nov. 3rd as their release date, at least here in the US. That's not official, supposedly Harriet will announce it at Dragon Con, but that's what I've been hearing.

http://www.createyourcountdown.com/page/torbooks Yeah, it looks fake, but it was announced in the TOR newsletter Email that I got.

So interesting stuff. Maybe I'll order from Denmark and get it a month early. ;D

The Eye of the World was a well of pure Saidin. While it's true that the black threads allow Forsaken to channel clean Saidin, they also allow the DO to keep track of his Chosen. If Aginor had access to the Eye, he could really further his own agenda. And it is debatable as to whether the Eye could act as an angreal or even a sa'angreal.

I like Keeper, Brute, Sentinel and Anchor. Those would be my choices for names.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: RE Entertainment signs deal with EA
« on: January 20, 2009, 01:52:34 AM »
I was about to say something like this. Looks like you already beat me to it  ;) Lets only hope that it(they) aren't crap, like most of EA's games are. That really depends on how much freedom they give Red Eagle, though. Anybody heard of them before?

Yeah, Red Eagle and Robert Jordan have a bit of history. They've had deals before, on comic books and what not.
