Reading Excuses / Reading Excuses is one year old
« on: December 08, 2009, 08:18:56 AM »
By the way, I'd meant to mention this earlier, but our first anniversary, if you want to call it that, was about this time last week. (As Karl has just reminded me.)

I'd say that we've built ourselves a pretty successful writing group here.

So thank you.

Reading Excuses / So everyone knows...
« on: September 13, 2009, 09:48:14 PM »
Remember when I sent out an email asking everyone to respond if they were still interested in Reading Excuses? Well, after sending out one more email to those who didn't respond the first time, I've gone ahead and cleaned our list. The only members on our list now are those who specifically asked to stay on.

So if you hear from anyone who got deleted from the list because they missed the emails, or were away on vacation when we cleaned the list, or what have you, and they want back in... just refer them back here and we can re-add them. It's no big deal.

Related note, I don't think I deleted anyone that I shouldn't have. I'm almost positive, in fact. But if anyone ends up not getting any emails from the group tomorrow, perhaps that person should ping Chaos or me so we can doublecheck. :P

Everything Else / I...What? WHAT?
« on: September 08, 2009, 08:51:19 PM »
I have just been informed that is possible to get a Bachelor of Arts degree... in Math.

. . .

I don't know how that works but I think some fundamental part of the world has just been broken.

Broken, that it may never again be restored.

...

Yeah, what?

Why, back in my day... you kids never coulda got away with this!

Okay, really. I think people who attack other people with hammers have serious problems. And I think that people who are under the impression that playing D&D makes people attack other people with hammers... have serious problems.

“Hey, can I steal your integrity?”

And imagine, I was only trying to ask an innocent question about hairspray.

Reading Excuses / Do We Want A Website?
« on: August 15, 2009, 12:30:09 AM »
So, we now have a new mailing list over at readingexcuses.com thanks to Strider. Of course, readingexcuses.com is also a website address...

Which currently doesn't lead anywhere.

So, we can do the lazy thing, and point it to this board. And well, you all know me, I'm all for lazy.

(I'm not proposing that we move the discussion boards elsewhere, or to change the way we currently operate our critiques. This would be like supplemental content. Also, no promises at this point--if there is something that we want to do, someone would have to organize it, etc, and there are only so many hours in a day.)

So if there's anything you're particularly dying to see on a theoretical Reading Excuses website, post it below.

I thought this was kind of interesting.

Everything Else / Cryovolcanoes, Swiss Cheese, and the Walnut Moon
« on: June 08, 2009, 06:15:33 AM »
(Is this the right place to put this topic?)

So, this fascinating title is the title ofd an article by Richard A. Lovett. It appeared in the June 2007 issue of Analog Science Fiction and Fact, and I'd love to be able to get my hands on a copy of it.

Of course, I don't imagine my chances of finding a print copy of it are all that wonderful (Analog's site says they only sell recent back issues). Fictionwise doesn't seem to have digital copies that far back, and I'm not sure if it's available anywhere else digitally.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Music / I need...
« on: May 26, 2009, 09:36:06 PM »
About another hour of music that I can learn and perform on Saturday. I've filled up one hour already; I'm slated to play for two.

Any genre of music, but something that can be done by one person with an acoustic guitar.

Suggestions? ; ;

Reading Excuses / May 4 - The Ringing Horn, Chapter 1 Part 2
« on: May 04, 2009, 09:45:02 PM »
Your comments from last week were right on. Keep it up, and thanks!

(I am getting maddeningly close to finishing my first draft. It's kind of sad when "maddeningly close" constitutes probably another 20,000 words. Or so.)

Reading Excuses / April 27 - The Ringing Horn Chp 1 Pt 1
« on: April 27, 2009, 11:03:25 PM »
Today is the twenty-seventh, not the twenty-sixth. I knew that, of course.

Ahem.

I present to you The Ringing Horn, part the first of Chapter One.  Tear into it. Don't be shy.

And thanks.

Howard Tayler / No more Tag?
« on: April 22, 2009, 04:12:03 AM »
It seems the Touch-And-Go has a new AI. Am I the only one who would be sad if we've seen the last of Tag?

PS: I think Howard must've just put this comic up... I feel like a stalker. As opposed to a slacker, which is what I really am.

Reading Excuses / So, how's it going?
« on: February 26, 2009, 08:32:40 PM »
It occurs to me that it's been a little while since we've switched to the once-a-week system of submissions. Do people still prefer doing things this way? Other suggestions? What about our newer members, what do you guys think?
