Everything Else / Anyone used a Mobicool W45 cooler?
« on: June 30, 2011, 06:01:58 PM »
Hey folks,

So we're looking at this cooler and trying to decide how well it would work for camping. It's battery powered and can charge on car batteries while the car's running. I have no idea how long the battery lasts after it's charged, though, or how long it takes to charge it.

I've already checked the instruction manual and online and found precisely nothing useful. Anybody used one of these?

Books / Oddly Specific Reading Request
« on: September 15, 2010, 03:56:19 AM »
So I'm trying to come up with a decent list of fantasy stories that include non-Western mythologies, or stuff inspired by non-Western mythologies, and am having a tough time thinking of more than a couple. Anybody got any suggestions to throw out there for me?  (I know, this is specific enough that I might only get blank stares, but I figured it was worth a shot.)

They don't have to be novels. Short fiction counts.

Thanks!

Writing Group / Call For Submissions - Edge of Propinquity Universe

Click here. It sounds really interesting, but it's also a pretty scary commitment. Anyway, thought that those of us who write short stories might want to check it out.

Reading Excuses / June 23 - Silk - Fall, Stars, Fall - L
« on: June 24, 2010, 05:13:44 AM »
...it's still Monday, right?

Ahem. In all seriousness, I'm sorry this is so late. The changes I was making to it took way longer than I wanted them to, and there wasn't much point in sending the piece out without those done. Mea culpa.

I tagged this for language, but really it's pretty mild. Content shouldn't be a problem otherwise.

Thanks for reading, as always. Don't be nice.

ETA: For clarity's sake, this is intended as a complete short story.

Reading Excuses / Would you prefer...
« on: June 18, 2010, 07:12:25 PM »
So provided I manage to figure out what to do with it by Monday, the story that I plan on submitting is, ahem, a bit long. The last time I split an over-long submission people commented that they would have rather seen the whole thing all at once. So: This is a short story (well, novelette really). Would you rather get it in two installments or all at once? It's about 11,000 words.

Rants and Stuff / I am starting to understand...

why people particularly care about e-readers.

I don't want one for reading books, mind you. I just wish I had one for reading manuscripts.

Writing Group / Mutation Press/Music For Another World Anthology
« on: April 27, 2010, 01:36:44 AM »
Has anyone heard of this anthology or this publishing company? (Mutation Press, edited by a fellow named Mark Harding.) I first found them through an author's blog, so, you know, one assumes they're legitimate, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information about them and their website is, ah, not quite what I might consider to be professional calibre...

(There doesn't seem to be anything about them on Preditors and Editors or Writer Beware, positive or negative. Though it looks like they're new, so I don't know if that means anything.)

Anyway, the deadline is April 30th if anyone had some music-themed sf they wanted to submit. I might, if I can get my story that sort-of fits the requirements to where I want it. Maybe.

Reading Excuses / Since we're an email based-group...
« on: March 22, 2010, 07:23:34 AM »
Just to bring it to everyone's attention--I've gotten a couple emails at my main recently that were most likely viruses. I don't know if anyone is finding the same thing of their email addresses, but you know, never hurts to be vigilant...

Rants and Stuff / Kids these days!
« on: February 08, 2010, 06:35:24 AM »
You just never know what they'll get up to! You turn your back, the next thing you know they're doodling on school desks with them new-fangled "erasable markers".

We won't stand for this kind of behaviour no more! They oughtta be locked up! Or at least, hauled away in handcuffs.

Yeah, apparently there are people who actually think that.

What the heck is wrong with us?

Reading Excuses / January 11 - Silk - Cobwebs and Silhouettes
« on: January 11, 2010, 07:30:58 AM »
Hi everyone,

People have been pestering me to submit something, so here it is. It's a flash fiction story, intended to stand alone. I, uh, don't know what else to tell you about it. Content shouldn't be a probelm. So have at 'er, I guess.

Thanks. =)

Haha. Bunni got in a nice dig on Tagon's, ahem, one-track mind.

But hey. At least now we know that Tagon is not a serial killer.

Rants and Stuff / comment for charity!
« on: December 24, 2009, 12:31:57 AM »
Just thought I'd point out that a literary agent, Nathan Bransford (and a bunch of other people; he's got a list of links on his blog) is donating a dollar to charity for every person that comments on this blog post by 5pm pacific...
