Brandon Sanderson / Re: Alloy of Law Excerpt (Updated with Ch3)

I see two possibilities with pulling an item crossing a speed bubble, both of which say (almost) nothing happens.

1. It cannot happen, the bubble warps itself to either include or exclude any discrete item.  This could have the side effect of deflecting and changing the speed of moving objects, like bullets.

2. The large change in momentum would increase the amount of force needed to move the table (that sticks out of a Bendalloy bubble).  I think it would be about 100x as hard (assuming 100x speedup of time) to accelerate an outside object (or part of one) from inside of the bubble as outside of it, because it would be moving that much faster in the outside world.  most objects are not that strong, so they would break at the edge of the bubble.

I'm not sure about either of these ideas, especially with such limited information to go off of, but I think #2 is better at least.

Yeah, I agree with #2; it makes a certain amount of logical sense. And there's the fact that Wayne has enclosed both himself and Wax in a bubble while they were sitting on a couch, which would seem to be an awkward position to maneuver a bubble around without intersecting the couch or one of its occupants. As an aside, did he say if the bubbles have to be perfectly spherical?

I'm not sure about their strategy, but I remember that when I first read that they were kidnapping women with strong Allomantic bloodlines, my initial thought was that they were trying to use them to breed more Mistings. That's a bit of a gruesome thought, though, and I'm not sure if it's the kind of thing Brandon would want to use as a major plot point.

Yeah, you're probably right. I just find this so interesting; getting new hints of how the world's changed and what Sazed's been up to with its population since the original trilogy. I can't help but speculate. :D

What I found most interesting was that koloss can apparently breed with humans. I guess it makes sense, since the original founders of the species were once human. Though that's interesting - I wonder if that means kandra would be able to have children with humans, or were they too thoroughly changed?

Oh, that's an interesting point! Hadn't thought of that. Maybe the Almighty was taking a more active role back then, so the Knights could just absorb it directly, then transfer it into gems for use in fabrials?

Steris is hilarious, but I'm not sure I'd want to be in the same room with her. And Wayne is just pure love.

Oh my gosh, this is such perfect timing - I just got a job and am anticipating my first paycheck in a few days! Granted it's probably not responsible to throw money at a new RPG book first thing, but when has that ever mattered to a fangirl? X3

Of course, all that being said, there's really only one place you can go with something like Odium. ^^;

But hasn't it also been stated that you have to have a certain affinity for what the shard embodies to absorb the shard's power?

The Devil with nails in their eyes? Inquisitor? Did Tan actually see one, or is he just crazy.

Marsh is still alive.
Quote

Considering that Ruin is no longer around to control Marsh, I wonder if Marsh has been sent mad from having ruin in his mind, and so many spikes in his body. Or maybe Marsh isn't that evil, but because of the spikes in his eyes, Tan just thought he was the Devil. Maybe in an attempt to divert our attention from the real villain...

I don't think it's unlikely that people who've heard stories about Inquisitors would be scared of Marsh before he ever did anything. That's one of the things I'm most looking forward to learning more about.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Parallels in Mistborn? [Trilogy Spoilers]

You are definitely not the only person to notice this. I read Mistborn before watching TTGL, and all through the series I couldn't stop noticing cool parallels. I agree that it was probably mostly coincidental, but I think it adds a fun dimension to both stories. :)

This was really cool to see. I loved the tantalizing glimpses of what the world's become; especially how the events of the Mistborn trilogy have been worked into religion and folklore. I can't wait to see more of that kind of thing. This'll definitely help keep me going until the book comes out. :D

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Dalinar as a possible radiant?

There's been a lot of speculation about this, actually, and I think most people agree that there's something special about Dalinar. Personally I agree that he's a great candidate for one of the new Radiants, but I think those particular pointers are a little too vague for us to know just yet. :)

Oh, okay, sorry, I missed that.

I really like CabbyHat and ulysses sword's theories.  I actually can't decide which I like better but they both leave me wondering about a couple things.  In CabbyHat's theory I'm wondering why the Heralds would make the Oathpact knowing that a thousand years of torture await them.  In ulysses sword's theory I'm wondering what other angle Odium has worked into the deal.  I mean, torturing Heralds and sending out Desolations is fun for him/her/it, but it doesn't feel like enough incentive.

Well, in most fiction where deals with the devil feature into the story, the characters don't seem to feel that eternal torture is an unfair trade. The human mind seems to have trouble grasping what exactly an eternity means, or even a thousand years.
