Wow, Darxbane, you know some fundamentalists with a lot weirder beliefs than any I've met!  Tell me, do they take the Bible literally enough to believe that King David was actually a sheep (Psalm 23)?  That's always been my favorite example of why no one actually takes the Bible literally and we all interpret it to some extent; I'd be sad if I couldn't use my favorite example anymore.

Sorry about your bronchitis, Wilson.  I know you were hoping to ditch it before your trip.

Indian food is my overall favorite, I think, especially in restaurants since I haven't quite gotten naan and papadams figured out yet at home.  I picked "German/Scandinavian" purely on the merits of potatis korf, which is a truly delicious type of sausage that I believe is actually an invention of Swedish immigrants to America - at least, the Swedes I've talked to have never heard of it.  I picked African because of two excellent dishes: ground nut stew and Moroccan apricot chicken; I'm not especially partial to any other African cuisine I've sampled, and some is actually quite disgusting.

By the way, it looks like somebody cheated - there are 38 votes from only 6 people.  Not that I object - I would have picked more than 6 options if I'd known I could get away with it.   ;)

Not in years, but in percent of total lifespan, and in maturity - yes, I agree with Shard that Sazed is older.

Most Christians believe that the "image of God" concept refers to something other than physical appearance.  Some opinions of what it is include intelligence, speech, and moral understanding.  My preferred interpretation is that mankind represents God on earth, and as such we are responsible to carry out God's will in relation to the rest of creation.  The basis for this understanding is the word "image" being like a statue of an emperor in a distant province, reminding people of the emperor's power; or of the emperor's face being depicted on a coin or a seal, authorizing certain acts in his name.

In any case, there are many ways to read "image of God", but I don't know of anyone who argues that the Bible is trying to say God actually looks like a human in a corporeal sense.

FTW does not violate Forum Etiquette Rule #9, but it does infringe upon Rule #11.  As, by the way, do ROFL and j/k.

(Just for the sake of being picky.)

Chuck will most likely get his abilities back.

You called it, Darx!  At least, I think you did.  I can't be quite sure if he got the intersect back in his head, PLUS awesome new kung-fu abilities, or if he just got the kung-fu this time.  But either way, it certainly looks like they left it open for another season of Chuck.  Yay!

I'm familiar with the word normative and its sociological origins, or I would never have commented on your use of it.  It sounded to me (both here, and on the "Brandon to Write Wheel of Time Book 12" thread) like you were confusing it with "normal" in the non-sociological sense of "common" or "ordinary" or "usual".  My understanding is that the word has more of a "here's what behavior our group expects, approves of, and encourages" connotation, not just "here's what behavior frequently occurs within our group".  It is a value judgment, roughly synonymous with "prescriptive".

But people get bored when other people quibble about definitions, so I'm happy to drop this argument.  While you and I may disagree on the precise connotations of the word, I freely admit that I underestimated your knowledge of sociology and its terminology.  I assumed, wrongly, that you were one of those annoying people who try to sound smart by misusing big words, saying things like "simplistic" when they mean "simple".  I'm sorry.

Thanks, Ben, it's refreshing that not everyone who posts here does so to show off their culinary expertise and creativity!

(Though, come to think of it, gourmand bragging is probably the primary purpose of such a thread.)

But it's hardly normative.

You keep using that word.  I do not think it means what you think it means.

I can count the number of nosebleeds I've had in my life on one finger... but who's to say I might not have another in the far or near future...  ::)

I never used to have nosebleeds (maybe 5 in my life) until about 6 months ago, since which point I've been having about one per week, always in the right nostril.  It's very bizarre.  I can't decide whether they're caused by pregnancy or by having my upper right wisdom tooth extracted.

I'm not sure I'd say "normative" exactly, not that they were frowned upon either.

I used to have that kind of agreement with my brother - I'd make him green mango pies if he would pick and slice the mangos.  I definitely had the better end of that deal.  The mango tree always had lots of red ants on it.
