Brandon Sanderson / Re: Ruin and Preservation

It doesn't have to be a conventional metal, it could be that this metal has a very high boiling point, and that could be why it's not so hot.  I'm not sure if I agree with this theory, but since all the magic systems we know of so far seem to be based on metal, and Vin says she burned the mist like metal, it was just a hypothesis.  I just reread the part in WoA, and yes, it does say for sure that the Kandra and Koloss were created by the lord ruler, sorry about that.  Anyway, if we do go with this metal mist hypothesis, then could we assume it's an alloy tothe metal in the lake near the original position of the well of ascension or the metal elend ate (which could be the same metal).  I'm not sure I even believe the mist theory it's just a hypothesis.  It might make sense though.  One metal gives a person allomancy, the other strengthens it, they would be the same pair.  I know most of the pairings do opposite things, but some of them do the similiar.  For example: duralumin and aluminum both take metals away, they jsut do it in different ways, so they're not really exact opposites.  Anyway, remember, all of this is purely theoreticalm I actually think the mists are probably water vapour of some supernatural nature like the characters in the book believe, but this is just something that came to mind.

I thought that too, but I was also wondering if the Lord Ruler used the power he took from the well of ascension to command them like Ruin did.

Also, from what we've seen, all Hemalurgists are also Allomancers, or have the abilities of one, and Allomancy didn't come until after.  I assume that hemalurgy emerged around the same time as well.  I'm sure the piercings have some significance, and it might have something to do with hemalurgy, but I don't think it is in the sense we know it as.

Just because Alendi had piercings, doesn't make them Hemalurgic, I just thought it was interesting that they both had piercings, Alendi proclaiming him as the hero, Vin's mother proclaimed her a Queen.  Remember, the legends were of Terris Origin, and the Terris people are known to wear Jewelery.  While we can assume about Vin's earing because of the sacrifice, we do not know the manner in which Alendi recieved his piercing.  They could be Hemalurgic however.  Somehow, I think that Vin and Alendi's aren't the same as the inquisitors or Zane, perhaps a different form of Hemalurgy?  After all, they cannot hear Ruin's voice, and wouldn't they be the people Ruin wants to influence most of all?  Again, I'm not saying I disagree, I just think that there are other possibilities.

The very beginning of chapter 22 in WoA talks about the mists being both Stability and Chaos.  Ruin-Chaos, Preservation-Stability.  That seems to fit doesn't it?
I was also wondering what the mists are, are they really simply water vapour, or are they something else.  Also, I'm guessing the Kandra, Mistwraiths, and Koloss fit in to the equation somehow.  TenSoon says the Kandra, are creatures of Preservation, and Humans are of Ruin.  What are Koloss and Mistwraith of then.  We know they are all related somehow.  I also noticed that there are three magic systems and three Mist Creatures (I'm lumping Koloss into this categry even thought they have little to do with mists).
I like the idea of the different Magic systems reacting with them mists in different ways.  It's almost like magnets, hemalurgy pushing, allomancy pulling, feruchemy neutral.

I think a Lurchers greatest talent would be thievery.  He only ha to walk into a room, and he knows where everything metal is, and can instantly pull it towards him, without actually rummaging around for things.  They can also pull safes out of walls, like kelier did, bracing themselve sby pulling on other things.  True they don't have pewter to help them carry anything, but still, I think Lurchers would make excellent thieves.

Amen.  I also think there's just too much book to fit into a movie.  True, it would be condensed when the action scenes are converted to action instead of words, where several seconds can take up several pages, but I don't think a movie would do it justice either.  It would be cool though.  Way cool.

Being just an atium misting might also not be of much use.  What good is it seeing the future, if there's no way for you to stop the pewter powerd thug coming after you?  You'd be able to dodge certainly, but you woudn't be able to do anything to hurt them really, unless you were an extremely skilled fighter.  And once they corner you or your atium burns out, your toast.

Turning someone into an allomancer could be considered external.  Pewter is considered external because it is changeing a person physically, well the ability to burn metals in one's stomach is just as external isn't it?

I prefer the classic, "(insert name here) gave me wood!" or yelling "THE W NUMBER,"  whenver a number is rolled that gives you wood and wheat.

I know that the place is the well of ascension, but the Lord Ruler also made modifications (the cans, the metal map with Statlin City circled).  He could have also added the metal beads if he got them from somewhere else.  Anyway, if he did use that metal to make inquisitors, then He must have removed it from the room, because I don't think he would brink the inquisitors down to where the well was.  IT would have been something he kept hidden, from everyone, and he certainly wouldn't let an inquisitor down there, seeing as how aside from himself, they are the most powerful beings in the empire, wouldn't wan them getting any ideas now would he?
Another thing.  Did the Lord Ruler have absolute control over the inquisitors, or did he force them to obey, or did they just obey hime because he was way more powerful than them.

First of all, I think that's a pretty good idea, but it would need to be a really competent lurcher, and I think they might have to move around too much for this move to be effective defensively, however if they used multiple coins...  I also thought it would be cool to for a lurcher to kind of "swing" from buildings using iron pulling, like spiderman, without as much give.  Oh, and just for continuity's sake, it's iron pulling and steel pushing, I think you got them backwards in your post.

We can also agree that hemalurgy involves metals within the body.  As far as we know for sure, it has to be a metal spike like the inquisitors and Zane have, but the number can be variable.  It also possible for it to be an earing, like the one Vin wears, but this is not certain.

I agree that using the mists is something separate, but I'm not entirely sure that Ruin and Preservation are involved.  It's possible that Ruin and Preservation both have power over the mists, and Vin has somehow learned to use this power as well.

It has been stated several times that the mists repsond to allomancy and hemalurgy, so perhaps this "Mist Magic" for lack of a better terms, is some advanced form of allomancy, or hemalurgy, or something completely different that only Preservation and Ruin have learned how to use.  With allomancer, both the good and bad sides use allomancy, why can't both spirits use the same sort of magic.  The mists could just be the medium, just as metals are the medium for allomancy.
