Books / Re: Fantasy: reliable content

I just finished the Percy Jackson books.  I got them for my son, (11) but my husband and I enjoyed them as well. I was surprised at how much I liked them. Quick, clean and entertaining. Not terribly deep, but they are written for kids.

My uncles were target shooting at my grandparents' farm.  They pestered my mom until she came out, hit each target in sequence, dead center, handed the gun back to my uncle and went inside. I don't know where she learned to shoot though.

That nerf gun looks better than it works though.  My son got it for his birthday and the little nerf bullets are fragile and tear easily and the gun jams.

I think fantasy movies make up for the lack of autistic characters by the number of Asperger's people who obsess about their shows and video games and what-not after. I say this as the mother of an Asperger's kid who fights orcs in his spare time.

Did that yesterday, but when I sleep in, I have to rush my kids to school.  Of course I'm not the one that gets the dirty looks from the teachers. ;D

Older Rawn is good, but avoid her newest one, Spellbinder.  Lots of sex and completely different. She explains at the back of the book why it is so different. I just remembered because it was on the remainder table when I went to the bookstore the other day.

You learn so much more at college off campus.  ;D
We have seven inches of snow, and it is still coming down. School is cancelled. I live in Moab, it never snows like this here.

I love the Moon is a Harsh Mistress. I like Heinlein, but that one is my favorite.

I had my ultrasound and I am having a boy! Not until the end of March, but I like knowing ahead of time. That will even us out, gender-wise.

It's cold enough for a furnace to be on, but we don't have one. I hate building a fire every day. My husband does it most days but I hate being cold every morning.
Dreaming of the day we have the money to put a real furnace in.

Brandon Sanderson / The Gathering Storm - First Impressions *SPOILERS*

After ignoring my family for 6 hours I am happy.
And satisfied. It is nice to have so many long awaited events finally happen.
It was a good book.

Anyone more eloquent than I have opinions yet?

I hope physical bookstores stay around. You cannot browse properly online.
For people like me those sales are meaningless because I would never buy a best seller, they have them at the library.  I tend to buy things I want and my library doesn't have. Besides, my local bookstore has the wonderful habit of ignoring release dates, so its worth it to me to order from them to get books a little early.

My daughter broke her ankle and the local doctor says an orthopedic specialist should look at it.  So we have to get up at 5:30 to drive for an hour and a half to the nearest specialist. Sometimes living in a small town is annoying.

I'm jealous. I ordered a copy but my local bookstore hasn't gotten it in yet.

I got mine today, though my boys grabbed it before I got in the door, so it will be a few days until I get to read it. Please announce a signing. I would love to bring my children.

Headache from feeling guilty about drinking Dr Pepper everyday and trying to quit.  The amount I drink tends to fluctuate in relation to how recently I've seen the doctor.
