Yeah, I am probably flying. Not sitting in a car for 24 hours that week is fairly high on my list of priorities. It would be cool to get a group of us together and sit in a block on the plane. That might also be cheaper for ground transportation as well.

Yeah, in the end it will depend on how much the flights cost. If they are up there, then I will be in on the car ride. Right now, orbitz is showing at about 175 for round trip ticket between Denver and SL. So we have to consider 75-ish or so for rental(?) and gas a person in four people to a car. So is not sitting in a car for an extra half a day worth 100 bucks? That's a toughy.

Oh yeah, and get this: I'm getting married tomorrow.

Weird.

Oh yeah, I still do need to get famous, don't I? I will actually have my first book finished by late February, and then a decent draft by early summer.

Count me in on the rooms for sure, but I'm not sure about driving. Steve mentioned that plane tickets betwix Denver and SL might be pretty cheap and I don't mind shelling out a little extra to not have to sit in a car for 10 hrs each way (give or take). As much as I loved the car ride with Chris, Steve, Bob, & co, I would love spending most of that time chatting in a cafe rather than in a cramped nissan.

Oh Not-Bookstore-Man, I will be going.

I just don't know yet whether the new wife will want to go with me or not. Probably not. But I have to be sure.

Call me lazy for not looking intently through the back pages, but what month did Mistborn 2 come out? I haven't bought it this semester, and I'm not sure if I bought it last semester and left it at home. Brandon has a signing Saturuday and if I haven't gotten it I need to do so and have him jot in it for me. Thanks.

I got a reject for the second quarter and I just got my quarter-finalist rejection for the third quarter today, and I'm mailing out another story for it in a couple days.

Is there a single decent writer in the world who isn't a bit twisted?

Well, so much for looking forward to being an old man, if I can't get a free ride out of it.

Wow, people sure are freaking out about this Harlan thing.  He's just a funny, crazy old man.  What's with all this political correctness?  I thought the whole bit was hysterical, and I seem to remember everyone in the auditorium was laughing like crazy during Harlan's whole spiel.

Chris, you're so sweet to point out my lack of training.  And my other shortcomings.

But seriously, I don't think Brandon's gonna talk to me again, not after introducing myself to everyone, including his editor, as "the next biggest thing in speculative fiction."

Which is gonna make taking his class for the third time this winter all the more enjoyable.

Worldcon was a blast.  I met some awesome people, some editors, some agents and most importantly, the great guys I spent nearly 20 hours in the car with.

And don't worry the least about Scalzi.  He may have more minions right now.  But the Brandonhorde will split off into independent armies.  Armies led by the talented and devilishly handsome authors and bookstore supermen that saw the evil that was Scalzi when he claimed that Campbell for his own and rose up to fight him!  They will form a coalition that will multiply until verily, they will cover the earth!

Scalzi doesn't stand a chance.  Besides.  I'm the next biggest thing in speculative fiction.  If Brandon doesn't squash Scalzi before I'm famous, I'll take care of things in a few years.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: The Art of "Steveing" (you had to be there)

I was a witness to many of these Steveings.  They were magnificent to behold.  Steve is not simply a superhero; he is a weapon.  A weapon only to be wielded for good.  By young, ambitious writers.

That's funny, I walked into Brandon's room at Worldcon and he was dressed just like that, getting ready for the Hugos.
