Do we know how Shallan's stepmother died and when? Any chance it was the same disastrous evening?

Obviously:
  • Gavilar
  • Dalinar
  • Navani and several women from Dalinar's and Sadeas' war camps

Not so obvious:
  • SHALLAN

Yup.  I'm working on it.  Really though it'd be great if there were a wiki here to contribute to so we could all analyze it together.

Like this? http://stormlightarchive.wikia.com/wiki/Stormlight_Archive_Wiki

Or we could use Google docs.

The beggar could be Jezrien. Man in his 30ies with black, short trimmed beard + 4500 years = beggar with long black/gray beard.

It would also fit the "King becomes beggar" theme BS used in Elantris.

I think she destroys the artworks because she's vain and doesn't like how they make her look.
Or because she's ashamed of what she did, and doesn't like other people looking at her.
Which would make you wonder, what was so shaming that she no longer wants people to look at her>
Abandoning the Oathpact, of course.

Then why not destroy the artworks earlier? Or stop them from ever being created?

The heralds were already worshiped before they left the oathpact, so there should be plenty statues and images around. I guess she tried to live a "normal" live for some time, but then needed some kind of quest/hobby to keep her from going insane - err, even more insane.

And of course the bloody people keep on creating statues - there is a complete set of herald statues in Kholin's warcamp.

Shalash is Baxis' mistress in one of the interludes. She's on a quest to destroy any picture or statue of herself, that's why her statue is missing.

Thanks for the quote with the gender breakdown, I missed that!

But what would he have been soulcasting at that moment? I prefer the other theory that Dalinar is a windrunner and drew from the gemstones when he stopped the chasmfiend. Also others noted that his shardblade gleamed in this scene, like with the Knights Radiant.

Baxin's mistress for me. I like her nonchalance and determinism.

Hm, there is still a problem with Shalan dropping the shardbalde and destroying the soulcaster:

The soulcaster was found in the inside pocket of the coat, and the dead man was lying on his face.

The only scenario I can imagine where Shalan's father gives the shardblade to her is: "Take this blade, kill your brother and give it back to me." That would also give Shalan a motive and explain the broken soulcaster.

It would not explain the man in a pool of blood. While the second-shardblade-strike theory has a ring to it, it still would not work since dead people don't bleed.

My favorite theory: Father beats son senseless, Shalan stabs father with conventional weapon (or steak knife), stormblade materialises, she picks it up and drops it again. Could a dropping shardblade cause the damage to the soulcaster before vaporizing?
