Brandon Sanderson / Re: Alloy of Law - Vanishers Theory

since the First shipment stolen was a railcar of aluminum, what if  you make a Aluminum shell in the shape of a railcar, paint it, then use coinshots/lurchers to place it on the Tracks ahead of the care, then remove it when the train stops.   mix in some dryice, mist, what ever, :D

a Note about Returned, each of them is shaped and appears as how they Belive themselves to be.  A Normal Returned is worshiped as a God, and see themselves as Godlike, hence "Physical Perfection" and agelessness.  Vasher instead sees himself as a Scruffy lowlife, with flaws.  Each of them only Has to Look like they Want to.  if they have the willpower, then can override their Beliefs, and change shape.   in essence, "I look like this because I Belive I Should"

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Medical Hemalurgy

I've always seen Hemalurgy as very akin to Acupuncture, and with a kinder, gentler Sazed at the helm, perhaps its been toned down to that lvl?  for example, a patient goes to a local Spiker, who used various metal-spikes and rods to poke and prod the patient, perhaps "Killing" the sickness, or disease.

i could also see it as akin to Steroids, where a person Spikes themselves to be quicker, or stronger, etc.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Is stormlight sentient?? (major spoilers)
« on: September 29, 2010, 12:28:14 AM »
and Odium is Agent Smith?

back to the topic!  personal theory: Stormlight is pure power (perhaps a splinter, or sliver of shard-power), most likely a gift from the Almighty by way of his Highstorms, and can be used in a Variety of ways(powers Armor, powers blades? fabriels, raidents, money, good lord, its everywhere!((except shin?)) )
Spren are Magical, Sentient, Emotional and can help a Human use Stormlight, but are not made of it, and might be from the Almighty, Cultivation, or the 3rd Shard(lots of debate possible here, where are they from, what do they do, can you trap them in a Poke-ball?).
And the Glass bead is mostlikely the Goblet, which implies that even rocks, and non-living objects have a Representive in Shardsmere(Shallen tansformed a Goblet into blood, Jashnea turned a Bolder into smoke, and regular soulcasters do all sorts of stuff, trash into metal/food/clothes/etc)

getting to Shardsmere itself might be easier with Stormlight(especially if its acutely shard-power) but since Hoid, and his Hunters(17th shard?) uses it to travel, their must be other Methods(meditation? aeons? willpower? death((one of the visions is a word for word description for it)) )

an idea I had, which I'm sure no one else will like,  what if Spren, are Cultivations Magic/Gift?   I know, I know, it would be nice if their Just the Almighty's shards, but what if?

My theory runs this way, spren are Drawn to Extreme States of Being.  in essance, Pain, Anger, Death, Honor, Life etc.  Syl is the only Spren we've seen that's Bonded to a person, so I'm basing this theory on her Actions.   how does she act?  mostly, like a conscious, or guide, prodding Kaladein out of his Depressions, and away from Suicidal thoughts.  She grows over the course of the book, gaining memories, personality, and understanding, which she uses on Kaladein to enhance his life.  This might be the Purpose of Spren, as Guides to Enhance/Grown/Cultivate people into "better" versions.   Honorspren are Attracted to people who display Honor, and they Encourage it.  Truthspren seem to also function the same way,  Shallen had to speak a "Truth" in order to use her gift, but she didn't Lose that Truth, instead she has to Face it, Remember it, and Grow from Using it.

this brings to mind a possibility, the most commen Spren seen in Elhkoars presence has been Gloryspren, one wonders what ability's they have?

anyway, that's my crazy theory, please, shoot holes in it?

another possibility, what if the reason Syl doesn't like Shardplate/Shardblades is the fact they to get the full power out of them, you have to infuse the Gems with Stormlight, and a Spren.   Syl "knows" this instinctively, and feels that all the blades and armor around her are empty, hollow shells, just waiting to Suck her in and Trap her.

see Translation Thread for explanation.

Jasneah mentions that Two of the Orders of Knights Radiant had inherent Soulcasting ability's, which is what the Fabrials are based on.

Theory; what if one of the Orders had normal soulcasting: Transformation of Object to Another; and the other order had a Different type?  perhaps, Transformation of Self to Other?  baiscly, rebuilding your body from wounds, reinforcing your body against blows, enhancing...

just tossing this idea out...

:o   oh my god... this is soo beautiful and amazing!!!  when i first saw those pages it said oh, so pretty, o, some kinda made-up language and skipped right over them.   to know they have an actual translation... i must copy this to a sticky note, laminate the note, and leave it in the book next to those pages... so epic...

peter, with so much work put into it, do you know if brandon is going to include it in the next book as well?

« on: September 18, 2010, 10:46:52 PM »
another possibility, what if what Tavarangian has, isn't a Normal Soulcaster?   basically, it has 1 gem, held in the palm of the hand.  the one Jasnah has, and Shallen had are both 3gems, across the back of the hand.

maybe his is not a maker, but a breaker, a more limited Fabrial that only dissolves objects?

another possible clue is the Cracked Sapphires in his Armor,  (loaned my book to a friend, so i can't quote) but notice how Saedas mentions the fact that 8 of them where Cracked?  now that might just be battle damage... or he could be Tapping them, to help power his Foolish stunts (race against Daliner near start of book, he was quicker, and took that vertical leap, then lept off the tower, and survived) also, Jalena also had a cracked gem, after one of her soulcasting attempts...

oh, another thought stuck me, when Sezth was fighting Galivenr(sp?) he noticed how Quickly Gal recovered, and moved.  now this is Sezth, full of Stormlight, bouncing off the walls like a rubberball, and Shard plate only enhances your strength, and endurance, not reaction time.  perhaps Gal was also a near-Raident, and was taping some of his gems? (which after the fight, quite a few of them where Cracked as well)

crap... we better check on the Cousins, it sounds like that entire family was tapping gems, and doing things they shouldn't...

Brandon Sanderson / Re: *Spoilers* General Shard List

I think the Face in the Highstorm is the Face of the Almighty, but that the Highstorms are part of the Automatic powers left over after the Almighty's Death.   IE: the Raidents, and the Highstorms are both Effects of the Almighty's shard, and possibly part of the Defense against Odium.

i believe the Reason they call the Stormfather Jezerezh'elin is because they've mixed the terms and effects of their religions up a bit.

in essence, the 10 Heralds, being the only ones with Names, have been ascribed more and more importance, and have been mixed into the Effects of the 3 shards, since the Humans on Roshan are only aware of The Allmighty, and the Voidbringers.

One question i have,  who is the Nightwatcher?  she's described with a Female Gender, while both Odium, and the Allmighty are described/shown to be Male.  Could she be the 3rd Shard Cultivation?

Brandon Sanderson / Re: WOK Spoilers: Parshmen
« on: September 15, 2010, 05:59:31 PM »
i have a theory, but I'm not sure how well it works.

basically, what if the Parshmen have more than one race?  for example, what if the Regular Parshmen, are the Farmers/Workers? and the Parshendi are the Guards/Fighters?  like a Swarm of bees, they have Different Castes/Sub-species of parshmen for Different Tasks?  perhaps this is why we haven't seen any surgebinders, they haven't needed them in their War Against the Alethi.   mostly i get this idea from the Quote on page499. "They changed, even as we fought them.  Like shadows they were, that can transform as the flame dances...."  to me, this implied a changeable enemy, that would adapt to what ever foe it faced.  since it seems the parshmen have a type of hivemind, but still retain individual choice, perhaps this how the Warriors avoided all contact with humans... or perhaps they were Guarding something, in the Center of the Shattered Plains, perhaps a city?   this could have been why they killed Galiver, because they feared that he was close to sending an Expedition to this Forbidden place, and being warriors, killing is the first option?   just a thought...

another thought i had, I'm not sure if its disproven, was it mentioned anywhere that the Parshmen ever grew Old? or Died of OldAge?   if not, what if they don't die, and this is why we never hear mention of parshmen children, cause they aren't needed?  of course theres the "youth" Daliver didn't kill.... hurrrm...

oh i like that, very minimalistic, yet still convoys the thought that each book covers one of the Three Arts.  also a subtle nod to how bad the book gets at the end, Book 3: There will be Blood.

Atium's the God Metal that replaced Cadmiums place on the chart.  In essence, all Cadmium mistings, and mistborn who would have been able to use Cadmium, instead were Atium burners.

I'm not sure if the same would hold true for Larasium, since the only time we see it, a Non-misting burned it to become a mistborn.  which means what ever replaced nicrosil was never found or used by TLR, or any of the other mistborn.
