Just finished Boneshaker by Cherie Priest. It was good. Not great, and it certainly could have been better, but it was enjoyable enough.

Picked up a copy of Julian Comstock, by Robert Charles Wilson today, and also a used copy of Dragonflight by Anne McCaffery (I probably spelled that wrong, but I'm too lazy to go look up the proper spelling).

Either way, If anyone else is interested, I wouldn't mind trading Nano's – half-formed or finished – once December rolls around to help each other edit.

Technically, it's against the rules. You're not supposed to use anything you've written before, aside from notes.

However, if you're talking about simply adding 50,000 words to Father of Gods, there might be a loophole in that. I was planning to do something completely different, though.

Been planning for it since December of last year. This will be my first year attempting it.

Unfortunately, the novel I had planned to do for NaNoWriMo, Wavepainter, is one I have already started and submitted to this group. So I need to find something else to do for it. I have a few ideas bouncing around my head, as well as several stories I gave up on and can try again, but I don't know which one I want to do...

Sanderson, Martin, Rothfuss - they're all good, but they are, honestly, but a small segment of fantasy, no matter how big they are. I love Brandon's books. I mean, it should be obvious, if you consider my work on 17thShard.com. But to be honest, he hasn't been around long enough to be a true staple of the genre yet. He will become one, though, in time, and is rising fast. But he isn't quite there yet. Neither is Martin, is you ask me - let the man get some bloody books out on a bloody timely basis and maybe I'll consider it.

To consider all other fantasy "filler" is wrong and insulting, to both the authors who write it, the readers who enjoy it, and the genre as a whole.

@Hobbun: I was sitting a few seats away from you, then. You were on the aisle, right side (if you were looking towards Brandon)? I remember seeing the person who asked that question. We chatted a little bit, I think, if you are the person I'm thinking of. The conversation about Terry Goodkind and Law of Nines? I was in the black shirt... yeah, probably don't remember. No worries :P

The link is from HardcorePookah on 17thShard, who I hung out with before and during the signing. We "represented" the site - he did the recording and the writing, and I just tweeted. :P

We were in the first group (green wristbands) and towards the end of that segment of line. Got the books signed, chatted a little, Brandon took my picture with the salt, I blanked on half the stuff I was gonna say, and then my friend got a call about a personal matter that... well, something happened that would have not made us good company for the rest of the night. So, as much fun as it would have been to hang out longer, it was probably better we left when we did.

You might remember me. I was the guy who referred to the books, around the beginning, as doorstops? ^^

We would have stayed, but it was a three hour drive down and a three hour drive back, and I had class in the morning. I did, however, tweet it for 17th Shard, and I gave him salt. Hickory smoke salt ^^

You know what really sucks? Waiting months for a book to come out, the first book in what promises to be an amazing new series by a favourite author... and then going to the bookstore and discovering the money you thought was in your account is no longer there.

It's even worse when you look into your account and discover several transactions that you did not make. Then you call your bank, and they give you the information on the recipients of these transactions, and you call them to find out what's going on and why they're charging you money. And then you discover that they're billing support services for adult websites. And while it's great that they refund your money (which will take about a week), you're now stuck with the knowledge that someone out there has your card information, and unless you can get it fixed soon, you're SOL and JWF.

And thus you have to wait until your next paycheck, which won't be for another week, in order to buy anything, let alone this book. So you have to ignore all the discussion and theorizing going around, because spoilers make the angry voices cry out for the blood of the innocents...

In the middle of Blood of the Mantis right now, by Adrian Tchaikovsky. The entire series has been fantastic so far.

Also, on a whim, picked up Magic Kingdom for Sale - SOLD! from Half-Price books. Half off the cover price of a copy printed in the 80's put it at a little over a dollar, so I figured why not. Didn't care for many of Brook's other novels, but so far I'm enjoying this one quite a bit.

Yeah, I read up on them, and Dexter in the Dark sounds particularly horrid with the supernatural aspect added in. I am a little intrigued by the fourth, but I'd have to read the third first, and I simply don't want to. Hopefully the fifth one gets back on track, although I'm not sure if I can even read that one. It involves cannibalism, which terrifies and sickens me so much I'm not sure I'd be able to stomach reading about it...

But yeah, to stick on topic... I actually have nothing to say on topic. I agree the comparison between Dexter and John Cleaver should refer only to the novels.

A word of advice, be sure to get there 45 minutes to an hour before the signing if you want a good seat, or even seat, period. Brandon came to the same bookstore for TGS signing and it filled up pretty quick.

Just curious, where are you coming from?

Madison. We're going to get there pretty early (leaving Madison around noon or so) but even if I weren't I shouldn't have to worry about getting a good seat...
