AGrey, I reread my last message and realized I responded a little harshly.

actually, after posting my message and heading off to work, i realized that perhaps i should have been a little less gloaty with my post.

If no one else made the list is it fair to declare this thread dead?

Still works as a place to talk about it all.

anyway, someone above was asking why some were picked over others?

when you fill out the application: think of it as a job, not a reward.

they're not picking the best fans, they're picking people who will help them run the signings.  I think that my two years in a bookstore, staffing multiple author signings at Loyola and Northwestern Universities is what made the difference.

anyway, good luck next year!

Personally, I think that tCSoWHiCtRWaSaHP is a much better title than either tGS, ToM, or AMoL.

So... Towers....

we've got the Black and White Towers, the topless towers of Cairhein, the tower of Ghenjei, and the seven towers of Malkier.

anyone thinking it's Malkier?

I also read that some people are thinking that its about the Seanchan, apparently they have towers too, thirteen of them actually.  As far as Malkier, I think there's hints of Lan's kingdom being reborn in the recently released prologue.

I am avoiding the prologue and chapter one until the book actually comes out

actually, now that you mention it, I do remember something about the tower of ravens or something like that out in the seanchan empire...

Elantris

the plotline with Raoden bringing civilization to the magical leper colony is what really makes the book stand out for me
the food cart chapters, hrathen's constant struggles, and sarene teaching the women to fence are all spectacular.

Hero of ages comes in second, because of the epic scope and atmosphere of the books.
there's a scene where one of the kandra is running cross-country, and he takes a paragraph to describe the scenery: the pervasive ash is now piled high, there are active volcanoes erupting everywhere, it's an image that just stuck with me.  With all the action, all the fighting, the wars and politics, you forget that the backdrop is armageddon.

also, the twist with vin's earring was an absolute kick in the nuts.  the best plot twists are the ones where you get enough clues beforehand, and rereading the series, it just seems so bloody obvious, but getting the reveal the first time completely swept my legs out from under me.

I'm at the exact same spot as you AGrey so I'm hoping you're right about making it!

well, i just finished 11 yesterday night.

so now i don't know what to do for the next two months...

perhaps i could try a sprint through the series, one book every four days should do it...  ;D

:o

I'm only at the beginning of book 5...

I thought I had time!

Must... Read... Faster...

That's the problem I'm running into.  Now I have one less week to work with.  I think I might have to resort to other measures...

Saaaad Paaaanda

well, i think i might make it, now.

five and six went very quickly (six is my favorite, and four.... and nine), and i just finished eight yesterday, picked up nine this morning.

that gives me two months to finish three books, which is the rate i was reading before.  (yea, spent an entire weekend doing nothing but reading five and six)

Shadar Logoth is in no way related to the DO because the friends of the dark that lived in Adrihol were far to ambitious and corrupted the power of shadow to fight true shadow...

I like to think of it as:

DO = Lawful Evil (hierarchy, order, commands given and obeyed, everyone with a plan)

SL = Chaotic Evil (ambition, greed, paranoia, selfishness)

hmmm..... I wonder how the rest of the factions would go if you try to box it off in the DnD alignment grid?
