Brandon Sanderson / Re: What can writers learn from Mistborn? *Spoilers*
« on: November 12, 2008, 05:49:22 AM »
one thing that really impressed me most, though it was a bit frustrating at times is the relationship the reader had with the characters, or at least the relationship i had with the characters. at the beginning of WoA i was very bitter towards Vin for being the main character and pretty agitated with how she treated Orseur, among other things, but then as the story progressed, so did her character, and my view of her. i obviously came to absolutely love her. Then comes the end of that book and Elend is given Allomancy, and stronger powers than even Vin. i resented him for that for a while but then once again came to loving him like i did in the first two books. okay, well maybe it was only me who felt this way about some things, but i guess all I'm saying is that the growth of his characters is something thats subtle, but so well done. Probably something to learn from as a writer.

perhaps two humans (early on in time...whatever that may mean) just found the forces (similar to when sazed found them at the end coming from vin and ruin) though, instead of one person getting them both, it was split between two people, two minds, and therefore could not work together as intended.
maybe it was cain and abel or something.. haha

This would work better if it weren't stated pretty clearly that they are shards of something larger.

No, the backstory here is going to be a bit more involved than all this.

hmmm yes. thats very true, though im still a bit confused about the whole shard idea.

Gold Mistings are the crazy homeless people you see on the streets of luthadel... the see what they could have been, had they not had the ability, and get depressed... It's one of those sad never-ending spirals into Allomantically-Induced Insanity...

hahaha. "should have saved that gold for something else..."

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn: Allomancy or Feruchemy? [ SPOILER ]
« on: November 11, 2008, 08:19:56 PM »
the answer for me would be allomancy, assuming we're talking mistborn and not just a misting. feruchemy is seriously awesome and has its own things.... but it has drawbacks too. for one, you have to spend so much time storing atributes where in allomancy you just take it from somewhere else. plus.. you eat metal. thats awesome.
feruchemists cant really go 'flying' about cities the way allomancers do, what with steel pushing and iron pulling and so on.
feruchemists tinminds do not help their vision with darkness as much as tin does for allomancers.
and then theres atium.
all in all being an allomancer would just be more fun.

just finished HOA last night. oh man. it was so good. i couldnt sleep afterwards.

im a little suprised gold was never used in the second and third books. but i guess there was no use for it...?
it would probably suck to be a gold misting...
