Brandon Sanderson / Re: Wow, does Mr. Sanderson like -born or what?
« on: December 19, 2008, 12:13:29 AM »
i will be doing my own little happy dance when the bar hits 100%.  Even though I know there's quite a few more drafts and edits and it will still be forever and it may just be the first of 2 books.   After waiting year after year since around book 3 for each new release I'm starving for the next part of the story.

I'm not sure when Brandon wrote this, but I assume it was in the last year. It was probably a very nice break to write something short and succinct since he's been immersed in AMOL 10+ hours a day.

If I remember reading correctly, this was his first ever published short story directly after college for their literary magazine and re-edted for Tor.com.  Even his early works showed his great potential!

So maybe not a vast majority that statement really wasn't based on any facts but I bet its a good portion of any new growth in visitors to the forum.

The topic should just be made static, not here a link there a link jump around the boards...thats silly. Just keep it all under Sandersons Name.

Since Brandon Sanderson's website endorses this forum as his official forum then all Brandonesque posts should be contained within.  Even those only tangentially associated with Brandon Sanderson. It should NOT be spread out between multiple forums. His link and therefore a majority of the sites traffic is directed into this forum and not the book forum.  Why not just create some static sub-categories under Brandon Sanderson's main forum link. Accessibility is important, I too read a number of forums for a number of different authors. As a new fan I click  travel to this forum through Sanderson's web page. IF there were sub categories listed under the Author that I wished to read about then I would agree 100% to move threads to different forums as long as they are all under the umbrella of the MAIN Brandon Sanderson link.   Administrators working with Brandon's People could determine what those categories are. Since new books are always being released and the book thread's are common in almost every forum out there, it would be a great static sub-category under the main Brandon link. Until then it is simply not reasonable to expect the vast majority of the traffic to back track from a main entry point to the site.

To reiterate: It is unreasonable to expect people who are directed into the brandon forum through the website to back track to an "appropriate" forum. The easy solution is to create static sub categories that divide the topics for Brandon's Fans under the MAIN Sanderson Link.

If threads start getting moved that many believe are BRANDON SANDERSON Specific to non-Sanderson forums because a few select people believe it belongs in a less populated forum to promote traffic to other less used areas of a website then Brandon should start looking into organizing his own personal forums where third party politics don't interfere with his rapidly growing fan base. Traffic has probably increased 50 to 100 fold since taking over WOT, and AMOL will escalate Sanderson to rock star status in the fantasy world. TWG should embrace new fans, not bicker over petty issues like where certain threads should be posted. It just makes those few who complain look like little kids throwing a temper tantrum.

some people are really anal about topics starting up again and what posts go in what forum. Maybe its not proper forum ettiquete but it really_is_not_a_BIG_Deal. They don't take into account that your a Brandon Sanderson fan therefore you only want to post in Brandon's forum and want to know what books other Brandon Sanderson fans are reading. They read the title of the post but still felt some obligatory need to correct you as if to teach you a lesson. Personally I say if you want to make a post then go for it, Ignore the nay sayers. They have a choice to ignore the thread completely if they wish and let those who truly wish to comment back do so. But they don't. Some people should get off their high horse  and relax a little bit, it is just a forum.  It is easy for people forget their manners online.

FYI
Read the Rhapsody series by Haydon
ALl the star wars books by Timothy Zahn and the ones by Anderson (jedi academy trillogy i believe)
Sword of Truth by Goodkind
Runelords by Farland (I think) was an interesting series as well but I admit even I havent read the last 2 or 3
A game of thrones by George rr martin is pretty good. (last book wasnt great but the first few are fantastic)
as well as all of the drizzit D'Urden (Sp.) Series ( very easy but cool reads) by RA SAlVATORE

Those should last you awhile.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Prologue for A Memory of Light

Hardly premature with a 2009 release and its already august. Besides Jordan has completed most of it if not all of it already (at east in rough form) according to previous interviews  and I'm sure there is some sort of plan to release it onto the market in new printings of KOD as a preview after the epilogue (As was done with other paperback books in the series!).  And all of that takes time to enter the market...any prologues wont just be an online release.

Brandon may not have finished it up yet, but he will have to soon!

Those of us who have waited for every new release since the 90's are just a little too eager to see a piece! lol
