Role-Playing Games / Re: Help...please?

My advice:

1) Get rid of the sig image.

2) Rewrite this as a screenplay, then send it in to a soap opera and point out in  can be filmed with a 0$ budget.

Rants and Stuff / Insult the person Above you

Just like "Compliment the person above you" but meaner!

There's noone above me,  so I'll insult the thread.

This is a really stupid idea for a thread, and should be locked!

Everything Else / TWG OZ Message Board

Yeah, the utahrds have one, and the eastside has one, so now we have one.

The first order of business is me heading down to TWG OZ central soonish. The current plan of action involves the olds coming up here shortly after the 28th, when I have a work meeting, staying for a few days, and giving me a lift back. I'll spend a week or two there and at my grandmother's, and catch a bus back before uni starts on the 17th.

Now, business:

1) Xaio, when's the crusade game? Will I be able to make it in that time span?

2) Xaio, you me and Bones MUST get together and spend however long it takes getting the first Nerdus Ordo Seclorum track finished. Not mostly done, completely done. We need to get one track under our belts to get anywhere, as discussed on MSN.

3) What's the chance of being able to schedule a Paranoia game in that time? I don't know everyone's schedules, but I figure Xaio and Gopher, you'd both be interested, right? Add in Ax, most likely, Bones probably. Gopher, would Scott or whatever his name was be interested, or are you enemies with each other now? Also, would Dane be interested? I think we can get six and have a great game out of it, if we can coordinate times.

While I was poking around looking at Starship Troopers, I saw this on the Mongoose Website, and rememberd the guy at the Games store mention it. It looks pretty cool to me, actually. Anyone heard about it or interested?

I've seen this in my local Games Store a few times, and it looks really cool. I've been thinking about getting into a minitures game for a while, actually, because modelling and painting looks sort of fun. This game is relatively cheap, made by Mongoose who do good stuff, and yeah. I hear a bunch of people have been buying it, which means I might even be able to find people to play with.

Anyone know anything more about it? Care to recommend or discourgae my purchase of it?

I'm happy because I spent most of my work time today fixing the laptop of a cute norweigan.

Rants and Stuff / Jam rants about his place of living
« on: March 28, 2005, 09:16:40 AM »
Here is what is wrong with my place of living:

*The rent is 30$ more than the 50$ I was paying at my last place, and that included meals.

*The Internet is 20$ a month, which is more than the free I was paying. Plus, it's slower. And it's "Unlimited' but not really since it might get restricted to 2 gig a month.

*The place is an old building and falling apart.

*My lock is difficult to use.

*It's a fifteen minute walk to the train station.

*I have to catch a train which means standing during peak hour.

*People leave the hallway lights on at night, meaning I can't sleep, because light comes in through my door frame.

*My room needs a vacuum and I don't have one. I think there might be a shared one, but that means leaving the room.

*I have to pay to use the washing machine and dryer.

*Idiots stole my washing powder cos I didn't keep it in my room.

*Idiots left underwear in the dryer so I couldn't use it. I'm not touching it.

*My neighbours are idiots.

*My neighbours play loud and bad rap music at all hours; see above.

*The girlish one always tries to talk to me, and I've seen rocks with more personality. I think she broke the rules and had a guy sleep in her room lats night, and I think they had sex, simply to spite me cos I'm not getting any. See "idiots" above.

*He looked like a moron, and she was wearing pajamas.

*The kitchen is horirble and disgusting and dirty, and everyone but me ignores the signs saying clean your own stuff up. The floor is sticky and visibly dirty.

*I have to share a toilet and shower; see idiots, above.

*I was going to move in with a friend of mine and his friend, and create a nerd house. His house was cheaper than this place, a whole house, not just a room, and we would have gaming going, and it's closer to uni than here. His roommates were moving out, and we organised this. At the last minute, they decided not to move out. We spent a week looking for another place to move to, failed, and so he kept staying were he was and I got this place. Then, they decide to ACTUALLY move out, and both of my friends move in together in a nerd house, invite me, only now I'm locked into a contract. They'd want a third person before my contract expires, too.

Video Games / Awesome Nintendo 64 Games
« on: March 28, 2005, 08:54:02 AM »
Right, so instead of playing my shiny Gamecube, which I've hardly played sine I bought it anyway, I dug out my 64 and started playing that.  (and certainly didn't augment that by downloading Roms and playing them as well, especially since my controllers are all stuffed. Since that would be illegal and stuff, and I would never think of doing that.)

Goldeneye - Yeah, a classic. You should all go and play Facility again, right now, so you remember how fun it is.

Jet Force Gemini - Old School style Turbocharged shooting! Really fun, though I don't remember the graphics being that blurry. Still, rainbow blood is always good.

Mario Kart 64 - I can't believe how fun this game still is. And I can't believe I've completely lost my skills at it, though I attribute that to a stuffed control stick.

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon - See my review on TWG. I love this game, and I'd still rather play it than 90% of new crap. I mean, c'mon, the Villain Spring Breeze Dancin' is good enough to be worth the price itself. (I got it for ten bucks)

Hybrid Heaven - Extremely fun in short bursts, and I'm addicted again. Very nice combat system, though it would be nicer if it were expanded to allow multiple opponents.

Mischief Makers - Finished it today. I love 2D games. I always will - Video Games have the 2D nature, and trying to force them into three dimensions typically does not work, as it goes againts their nature. Anyway, I lvoe the graphics, since they're SNES style with 3D bits. And I wish the SNES had graphics that good. Plus you're unarmed and fight by grabbing and throwing enemies and their weapons.

Harvest Moon 64 - Probably one of my favourite ever games. Farming/dating sim that has such cool characters and graphics and story I can't help but love it. It's not a game about violence or drugs or media baiting or any extreme sports or other GTA3 era things. It's a game about fun, and there is love put into making it. It's so good I rarely play it - I'm almost scared to. I don't want any more exposure to the game in case it taints my memories of it. Plus Karen is hot.

Paper Mario - Another cool, semi 2D game with a really nice graphical style. THIS is what we should use powerful modern graphics for, not more photo realistic stuff. I don't want games that all look the same as real life and each other, I want styleised graphics. Plus, it's neat to see a consistant world based around the Mario Universe, with Minor characters who are chatty, have personality, and you care about.

Ride Racer 64 - That's fun. Nice cornering engine, and really impressive graphics.  I like it just for powersliding around the courses at high speed. And the Pac Man car.

Writing Group / Ruined World
« on: March 01, 2005, 09:03:27 AM »
Some of you may have read my (long) short story "Ruined World" aka "Systemless." This post concerns you. I'm also interested in hearing from the published authors on the forum.

I've pretty much finished with this story. I reread it today, and just thought, with a quick edit for spelling and grammer, it's good. Really good. If I ran a sci fi mag and saw it, I'd buy it. So I'm going to sell it.

I did a quick search and found a magazine that looks like a pretty good bet, based in Canada. I read their description and I think they'd like my story. I plan to buy the ebook of one issue pretty soon to check it out.

Now, my questions are:

1) Those who have read the story, expecially the latest version, am I right in the quality of it?

2) Is anyone who has or hasn't read the final version willing to keep some final feedback on it?

3) Is this magazine the best way to go, or what? 42 mentioned TLE, and said I should try there. Am I right in thinking that a webbased magazine is worse than a print one, but that any paying money is pretty good? (Given I'm trying to break into the market as a first time author - the magazine said they appreciate submissions from first timers).

4) Any other advice or suggestions or whatever?

Basically, I'm ready to go for it. I've sat around for long enough, time to actually become a professional writer.
