"Magic is what makes fantasy fantastic," someone says, "you can't apply rules to them or else it loses wonder!" I respond, "Sure, but if you want to write them you will certainly want to know how they work." Writing is all about execution, and I find applying some basic laws of physics to magic systems make them more understandable and realistic. Here, I'm going to outline my basic method for developing a magic system.

Brandon Sanderson / Hey, I'm new

I'm a long time fan of the Wheel of Time and after the announcement that Brandon was to finish the series, I decided to pick up Mistborn and read it over the holidays. I then went out and bought the second book. I'm now in much agony that I have to wait until October for the third one.

I do have to admit my friend and I are looking to make mistcloaks for Dragon Con. I don't know if I have time yet, but well you got me fully hooked. Color me obsessed.
