Brandon Sanderson / Re: Recommend a book

I highly recommend Robin Hobb. All her books are great, but start with the Farseer Trilogy.

George RR Martin's a Song of Ice and Fire. A great writer and a great series.  Even if it, as some people are inclined to think, never will be finished it's worth it. Remember: Journey before Destination!
I can also recommend his book Fevre Dream which I just finished. A really cool story about steamboats and vampires.

I must be one of the few who actually prefers the US covers to the UK ones.

Path of Daggers, Winter's Heart and Crossroad of Twilights are amazing covers in my opinion, the new one doesn't look as good but it's in no way a bad cover.

I would be very unhappy if they changed the cover artist for the remaining books of the series.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn as a Video Game

I think Elantris would be great if they made it in the style of Baldur's Gate II or Planescape Torment. A story and dialogue driven rpg.

Or they could make an adventure game in the style of Monkey Island.

I also think Miyabi's idea of a touch screen platform game would work quite well.

I will buy it and read it, and then after that I think I will work my way through all the drafts.

Brandon Sanderson / Signed Mistborn 2?
« on: September 14, 2008, 03:31:06 PM »
Anyone knows when I can expect (if I can expect) to be able to buy a signed hardcover of Mistborn 2 from the Brandon Sanderson store?

I got Elantris, Mistborn 1 and I recently preordered a signed Mistborn 3 and now I'm really beginning to feel that I want a signed Mistborn 2 for my collection.

I think something along the lines of Planescape: Torment or Baldur's Gate 2 would be great. I have not read Mistborn yet, I just started on Elantris.. however, I just wish there would be more games like Planescape: Torment and BG2. I have not played any RPG even remotely close to those two in awesomeness.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: WoT Read-Through by Brandon
« on: February 26, 2008, 02:47:21 PM »
So has anyone else read ALL of the WOT through like Brandon is doing?  I tried with each new one but quit at about volume 8 or 9.  I'll probably try when the last book is about to come out, but it almost feels like a chore to be done before I can go out and play. :-\

I did it once in fall 2006, got much better insight into the books plot and characters.

And I'm doing it right now, but this time I'm listening to it instead, I am currently halfway through Crown of Swords. I still discover new things that I didn't see or understand before.

Not sure but I think I might give it all a listen again before MOL comes out. Or maybe I'll just re-read Knife of Dreams to freshen up my memory.

I would say the 6$ option is the best one.

Books / How has your views on WoT characters changed over the years?
« on: January 27, 2008, 03:07:49 AM »
Brandon wrote in his blog that to his surprise he found that Nynaeve was his favorite character when he read the Eye of the World again for the first time in a few years...

I recently started to read the books again and just as Brandon I sympathised more with Rand, Mat and Perrin during my first read through of the series.. I might even go so far as to say I disliked the chapters with Nynaeve, Egwene and Elayne...

however now that I'm reading it all again for the fifth time or so, the latest not longer than a year ago, I found that I find all the characters very interesting... and I sympathise a lot more with Moraine, Nynaeve and Siuan Sanche for example... I also think Rand, Mat and Perrin to be Wool-headed fools sometimes (especially Mat, whom I also find very selfish and whiny before Lord of Chaos)

but the thing that surprised me the most, I absolutly love Faile! She is the greatest, every chapter with her is a pleasure to read, I can't believe I ever found her enoying and boring.

So I wonder, how have all you others sympathis altered with the years? Which character makes more sense now than they did before?

Brandon Sanderson / Question about Warbreaker?
« on: December 28, 2007, 10:47:49 AM »
Hi I'm new to this place but I already like what I see here so I think I'll stick around.

I'm a bit curious about writing books and now here's my question: The Warbreaker novel is 463 A4-pages on my computer, how many pages does that translate into as a printed book?

Happy Holidays!
