Brandon Sanderson / Brandon mentioned by Robin McKinley
« on: March 18, 2008, 08:50:56 PM »
I have to admit that my sister forwarded me the link, and she doesn't get his name right, but did anyone else catch Brandon's mention on Robin McKinley's blog?

"In the YA department, I recently read Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians, but Brian Sanderson. I really don't know how to desribe it other than hilarious and wonderful. If you haven't read it, go read it now. You won't be disappointed. "

Any news is good news, right?

Oi.  I'm afraid I expected this topic to be much more interesting based on the title "Utah?" and the number of responses it had already received.  I'm sure if I'd tried something like "Oregon?" it would have died halfway through my post.

I know you said you'd be in Portland the second weekend of December, but do you know any more detail about the trip itinerary than that?  Any chance you'll have time to grab lunch or something?  Granted, we'll probably have a two week old at that point, but I'd like to at least get together for a little while when you're in town here.

I must say, Brandon, that I would have been mildly shocked if you'd been against the idea (for anything other than legal/copyright reasons).  I somehow envision that if any of your worlds *do* end up really taking off from an RPG perspective, you'll be right there playing along with the fun.

So what's the ETA for BrandonSanderson.com V2.0?

(Or is this finally going to be 1.0??)

I'm still smiling from the mental image of folks LARPing Mistborn.

Aw Sprig...just bitter that you didn't think of it first?

No worries about the secret handshake bit.  If he had one, he would probably forget it, or simply change it on arbitrarily on a regular basis.   ;D

Brandon Sanderson / Fall Book Tour
« on: September 01, 2006, 05:29:04 PM »
So, Brandon, what exactly is and is not on your itinerary for your tour this fall?  Those of us up here in the Pacific Northwest, especially those with expecting wives who can't get to Utah on a regular basis, would still like to see you every now and again and maybe even treat you to dinner while you're in the Portland Metro area.  I figured I'd ask about the whole itinerary in case you were coming anywhere close enough to drive to without undue travel time.

P.S. Did you ever get in touch with Powell's Books (http://www.powells.com) and find out if you can do a signing there??  I would think they'd be all about that!

And Sprig, you'd sure get a cameo in *my* book, after that outfit at the reception.  Not that I'm ever writing one...

Ahhh...y'know, I just glossed right over that cameo in my reading.  I guess I should let the names sink in a little better going forward.  I'm just barely into the Captain Demoux section.  I must say that he definitely gets a pretty cush cameo!  Not that I'm hoping for such, although something better than the "body in the street" or "tossed to flesh-eating monster" variety would be quite welcome.   ;)

I suppose it would have been nice to save the third book and keep it all pristine, but we ended up loaning it out in no time flat.  Of course, my wife already finished reading her copy last night, so that one is free again.  I'm only halfway or so.  It's been a busy, busy week.  At least I travel again on Friday.  More time to read!  Yay!!

Mm hm....wikis are fun business.  If you leave it wide open, you get yourself into the business of patrolling the grounds and picking up the crap people leave all over the place.  If you make it too limited, you kinda limit its usefulness and it ends up withering and dying on the vine.  Ah, that elusive middle ground.

I'm in the middle of a wiki experiment at work.  I created a wiki instance for our group with the stated purpose of capturing key learnings that don't otherwise get recorded anywhere else.  I started it a week ago, and so far the only thing anyone has posted to it has been funny pictures of other people in the group.  *sigh*

I suppose I'm honored that you would flatter me so.

ON the good news side, my faith in the USPS has been restored as my package from Amazon arrived this afternoon (none too soon!!).  SO, I will be reading, reading on this trip down to ABQ.  Yay!

PS Carolyn says she already found a typo...
