I don't really understand ratings. If Wikipedia is to be believed, 5.5–6 million people have been watching every week, or 6–7% of the audience watching their televisions at that hour. I guess that's not good enough.

That's a decent number, but not for that timeslot.  It has one of the sweetest timeslots (Monday after Heroes) on one of the premier networks.  Heroes brings in 14-15 million viewers, so that's a huge dropoff to Journeyman.  NBC probably thinks they can put something better in that slot.

That said, it would make more sense to just move Journeyman to a different timeslot and see how loyal the viewers are, rather than just cancelling it.

Movies and TV / A Terminator TV Show?
« on: October 25, 2007, 01:33:02 AM »
This may be old news, but I just saw a commercial for a new series on Fox called "Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles".   It looks like it'll be a mid-season thing.

Has anyone seen anything about this?  (I looked for an old thread but didn't see one.)

Large is a relative term.  Compared to every other literary award in Utah, $1000 is quite large.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WHITNEY AWARDS COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES LARGE CASH AWARDS

The Whitney Awards Committee announced today that they will be offering seven large cash awards to be presented at the upcoming Whitney Awards banquet in March 2008.  These cash prizes are due to the generosity of the Whitney Awards’ marquis sponsor, ExclusivelyLDS.com.

Founded earlier this year, the Whitney Awards program is a non-profit organization dedicated to rewarding excellence among LDS authors.  With the new sponsorship of ExclusivelyLDS.com, winning authors will receive up to $1000 along with their trophy.

The Whitneys offer a total of seven awards.  The five genre awards (Best Romance/Women’s Fiction, Best Mystery/Suspense, Best YA/Children’s, Best Speculative Fiction, Best Historical) will each be accompanied by a $500 cash prize.  The two overall winners, Best Novel by a New Author and Best Novel of the Year, will each receive $1000.

“We’re very excited about the sponsorship with ExclusivelyLDS.com,” Robison Wells, president of the Whitney Awards Committee, explains.  “There is enormous talent among LDS authors, and every year seems to produce better and better novels.  This is an exciting time to be part of the LDS fiction industry.  Our hope is that these awards will raise awareness about the high quality fiction available from LDS authors, and to draw in new readers.”

Over a hundred years ago, Latter-Day Saint Apostle Orson F. Whitney declared “We shall yet have Miltons and Shakespeares of our own. . . . In God’s name and by His help we will build up a literature whose tops will touch the heaven, though its foundation may now be low on the earth.”

Anyone can nominate a novel published during the previous calendar year in any of seven categories, and a final academy of industry professionals will vote on the final ballot. Nominations are being taken for books published in 2007 by LDS authors at the Whitney Awards website: www.whitneyawards.com

Weird.  Both this week and last week I've seen the last twenty minutes, and thought it SUCKED.  I really need to watch the whole thing.  There must be something about the beginning that makes the ending good.

I think my problem is that it seems so disjointed.  At times it's kind of weird fantasy ala Scrubs, and at other times they try to be serious and deep.  It doesn't mesh, from what I've seen.

The ancient Japan stuff is neat, but it doesn't have any of the urgency that we saw last season.  For that matter, I think even the modern stuff needs to step up the urgency.  Last season we had Isaac's prophecies and Hiro's vision of the nukes--that gave everyone an important deadline.  So far this season everyone's just hanging out a bit.  Stuff is happening, but there's no one really seems to have much drive.

In my ongoing effort to become more and more like you Utah County folk, I'm going to the BYU this fall.  In preparation for this blessed event, I'm moving to Wymount TOMORROW.  If you'd like to stop by and wish me well (and help me carry a piano and a truckload of other items), you're more than welcome to.  We plan to be there at noon.

It's 864 Wymount Terrace, which is in building 16-F.
